Hot Town, Summer in the Lake County 2016, back of my neck getting rays and breezes! Ok maybe that is a stretch in changing the lyrics, but you have to get excited about the summer season change!

Just when you think it's spring (which kind of showed up), summer comes and spoils the party. Oh wait a second, that's a win for all of us!

Lake County knows how to make the most of our winters. We also know how to take advantage of the warm summers.

Tempel Lipizzans 2016 Performances June 19-Sept 11

Witness artistry and history come to life as the Tempel Lipizzan stallions enchanTempel Lipizzans 2016 Performancest audiences with their power, intelligence and grace. From the play of newborn foals to the leaps of athletic stallions, the Tempel Lipizzans are an experience for the entire family. This unique performance set to music has become a Lake County favorite. Evening performances are scheduled 6pm for Saturdays June 25, July 16, August 13. Matinee performances are scheduled for 1pm Sundays and Wednesdays, June 19 & 29, July 3,6, 10, 20, 24 & 27 & 31, August 3, 7, 17, 21 & 24 & 28 and September 4, 7 and 11. Ravinia Festival is the oldest music festival in North America and is lauded for presenting world-class music in an inviting, natural environment. The festival attracts over 600,000 listeners to some 120 to 150 events that span all genres including classical, chamber music, jazz, rock, world, music theater, dance and kids programming every summer from June-September. Vernon Hills Summer Celebration 2016 July 14-17

Join us for 4 days of food, fun, carnival rides and free entertainment and a huge beer tent. There will also be children's activities, bingo, live bands every night and fireworks on Thursday. Saturday will feature a car show from 9am-2pm and headliner band Smash Mouth to take stage at 9pm. Sunday enjoy a bags tourny and live entertainment. UL International Crown at the Merit Club July 18-24

UL International Crown at the Merit Club

The UL International is coming to Lake County. The competition will take place over four days with 32 players from 8 different countries. It will feature three days of four-ball competition and one day of singles matches on Sunday. Five of the eight countries will advance to the Sunday singles matches based on the outcome of the four-ball matches contested Thursday through Saturday. Tickets are on sale now.

Bring the family out for this exciting new event. The Color Aloft Festival will begin with Hot Air Balloons being inflated and compete in a "Fox and Hounds" contest in which competing balloons seek to land closest to the 'Fox'. Balloons will be retrieved and return to the park and after dark they will be internally illuminated by their burners or glow. Also enjoy family activities, live music and food vendors. There will also be a Civil War Era Baseball game.

68th Annual Jubilee Days FestivalThis weekend long festival begins Saturday with the annual 5K run, and in the evening the Miss Zion Pageants followed by an ice cream social. Sunday's entertainment includes the Arts and Crafts Festival, food, live music and fireworks. Monday will include the Mayors Breakfast, and Arts and Crafts Festival, food and the Jubilee Parade at 1pm. The largest Lake County Labor Day parade.

Live music from a range of Chicagoland bands and performers will be featured throughout the day. Come out for a fun-filled weekend of live entertainment, music, shopping and fine dining throughout this charming, historic downtown village. This is a great event filled with activities for the whole family including pony rides, kiddie rides and face painting. Restaurants and specialty shops will feature a wide variety of apple-inspired treats for all to enjoy. Plan to welcome the beautiful fall season at Long Grove’s Apple Fest 2016.

Blondie along with guest stars The Smithereens will be rocking the stage at the Genesee Theatrea. Come out for all great music like Atomic, Call Me and Heart of Glass. Tickets on sale soon.

7th Annual Covairs at Volo Auto June 11; 10 am - 4 pm

Open to all classics but featuring Covairs. There will be dash plaques, trophies, door prizes, and much more. $7 per adult which includes admission to the museum. Prizes for the best patriotic decorated car. Registration from 10am-12pm.

Meet a Stormtrooper at Tilt StudioMeet a Stormtrooper at Tilt Studio June 11; 11 am - noon, 2-3 pm, 5-6 pm

In a galaxy of games not far, far away, Star Wars is all the rage. So, here's a chance to get up close and personal with an Imperial Stormtrooper. Have your child's picture taken with the Stormtrooper for free and posted on our Facebook page. The Stormtrooper will make three special 1-hour-long appearances: 11am-12pm, 2pm-3pm and 5pm-6pm.

Ikebana International Show at Chicago Botanic Gardens June 11-12; 10 am - 430 pm

The Ikebana International Society presents an exhibition of traditional Japanese flower arranging. This event features many educational opportunities to learn about the mechanics and techniques of ikebana.

18th Annual Nostalgia Car Show June 12; 9 am - 3 pm

The 18th annual nostalgia car show will roll into Antioch. This free event expects up to 5,000 people to attend. About 400 to 500 show cars will be on-site, and members of the public are also encouraged to bring in their vintage automobiles. Other events include a DJ, raffles, bouncy houses, face-painting, a clown and balloons. Kettle corn and ice cream will also be available.

Grayslake's 21st Annual Arts Festival June 18; 10 am - 4 pm

The festival, held in Downtown Grayslake, promises to be a day of fine art, family entertainment, and great food from local food vendors. Over 60 artists from all over the Midwest will be displaying and selling their work, representing a wide variety of media including pottery, watercolor, oil and pastel painting, pen and ink drawing, wood, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, functional art, and more. Entertainment, children's activities and a High School exhibit will also be included.'

Sanfilippo Foundation Summer Concert Series Featuring Reginald Robinson, Ragtime Pianist June 18; 8 pm

This McArthur Grant "Genius" Award winning pianist and historian brings ragtime stylings old and new to the Sanfilippo stage on our 1927 Knabe Concert Grand. Join us as Mr. Robinson demonstrates the various styles that made Ragtime piano the extraordinary and uniquely American genre that it was. Doors open at 6:30 pm for touring, Concert at 8 pm. The Importance of Being Earnest at the Three Brothers Theatre Now until June 25

Oscar Wilde’s last play has been hailed as one of the most clever comedies in the English Language. Friends Jack Worthington and Algernon Moncrief have both fallen in love. However, their love interests Gwendolyn and Cecily have their hearts set on marrying men named Ernest. Thus begins a subterfuge to conceal their true names. Unfortunately for them, they will quickly realize that no one can truly be Ernest.

Ever wondered what life was like for children in the past? Growing Up in Lake County shares the everyday and extraordinary stories of children who grew up in the county. Try your hand at living and working on a pioneer homestead. Discover what life was like for a young drummer boy in the Civil War. Learn about the first African-American family to settle in the county. Attend school in a one-room schoolhouse and play as children did over 100 years ago. Through real artifacts, historical accounts and hands-on experiences, children connect the stories of the past to their own lives in this new exhibition for families.

Around the World in 180 Days: Adlai E. Stevenson II 1953 World Tour Exhibit at the Lake County Discovery Museum Now until August 31

Never-before-seen photographs document Adlai E. Stevenson II while on assignment for Look magazine. Stevenson was hired to go on a six-month tour of Europe and Asia to report on social, political and economic conditions in over 30 countries. Follow Stevenson as he meets with the young Queen Elizabeth II in England, Prime Minister Nehru in India, Prime Minister Ben-Gurion in Israel and other heads of state, interacts with local citizens, and sneaks out to visit local markets, all while assuming the role as America's unofficial diplomat to the world. On display for the first time are more than 40 of Stevenson's private photographs, along with items gifted to him during his time abroad

Thunder on the Chain Drag Boat RacesThunder on the Chain Drag Boat Races Now until September 1

"Thunder on the Chain" is Blarney Island's very own drag boat racing. Beginning in 1978 with just a few patrons who were looking to test out their souped-up motors, the boat races have grown into a weekly event during the summer attracting over 5,000 people weekly and featuring professional race boats & drivers from all around the Midwest. The boat races run Thursday nights for 12 consecutive weeks.

4th Annual VooDoo A-Go-Go a Tribute to George Barris July 2; 10 am

Mobile Room Escape "The Laboratory" at Gurnee Mills Now until July 3

Bring a group of friends and you will have 1 hour to solve a series of riddles, puzzles, clues, obstacles, and challenges in order to free yourself from a locked room. 37th Annual Freedom Classic 5K and Fun Walk July 4; 8 am

Celebrate the 4th in a healthy way and join in on this professionally-timed race along a challenging and scenic route. Medals are awarded for the top 3 finishers in each category. Walkers are welcome also. Sign up early and save $5. There will also be a Free 1/2 mile kids run for ages 4-10. Each kid will receive a medal and no registration is required.

Chick Corea Trio, Ms. Lisa Fischer & Grand Baton at Ravinia July 4; 5 pm

11th Annual Family Campout July 9-10

Bring the family out to the annual campout. Attendees may bring their own provisions for dinner, snacks or breakfast. Stop by the registration table to pick up the rules and receive the campsite number. Bring flashlights and see a movie in the park. Sports equipment and grills are available. Campout ends Sunday at 8:30am.

25th Annual Civil War Days25th Annual Civil War Days July 9-10

Northern Illinois' largest Civil War reenactment. The Lake County Discovery Museum is proud to present the 25th annual Civil War Days encampment. The event features infantry, cavalry and artillery reenactors, as well as musicians, sutlers, medical personnel and civilians. A large-scale battle reenactment, ongoing drills, kids' activities, and Civil War era shopping are available both days.

Cardboard RegattaCardboard Regatta August 6; 1 pm

It’s off to the races with this exciting new event! Grab some friends , construct a boat using only cardboard, duct tape and paint, then sail away at Diamond Lake Beach. Awards will be presented to the fastest boats in each class, as well as a host of other awards based on creativity, enthusiasm, and more. A limited amount of cardboard and duct tape to be supplied beginning June 1. Official rules will be provided upon registration. Register by August 3.

David Adler 36th Festival of the Arts August 6-7

Festival of the Arts has hosted some of the finest work of artists exhibiting in the country. More than 70 talented artists come together to showcase their works of art over the course of the weekend. The artist’s booths will line the gardens of Cook Park. Along with these established artists, a youth art division celebrates the talents of young artists that are 18 years of age or younger. Enjoy original artwork, live music, great food, and a youth art division.

Long Grove's Vintage Days August 20-21

Summer market place for all things vintage, antique, reclaimed, repurposed, upcycled and handmade. A two day event in the Heart of Downtown Long Grove with an accent on classic cars on Saturday. Enjoy the unique street vendors, live music, wine, beer, delicious street food and visit the local shops and eateries.

Disc Golf Tournament August 21; 12:30 pm

Players of all levels will experience the excitement of disc golf. Everyone’s invited to join in the 9-hole disc golf tournament, our “Plastic Classic.” Event includes longest drive and closest to the pin contests. If you don’t have your own disc, we will have frisbees for you to use.

10th Annual Taste of the Towns @Paulus Park August 21; 3-7 pm

This fun, family event will also offer live musical entertainment from local artists. Music will be played on the stage, grab a blanket and enjoy. Taste of the Towns features local restaurants, wineries, and breweries who will be serving samples of their menus. There will be picnic and pavilion seating available. A sampling from each vendor can be tasted by purchasing a Tasting Menu. The Tasting Menu may be shared by more than one individual, although there is just one tasting from each vendor. Additional beverages may be purchased onsite.

The Potawatomi Trails Pow-Wow is the only event of its kind in this area. This celebration of the Native-American heritage heightens the awareness of the history, traditions and customs of the heritage. Specific activities include demonstrations, music and dance presentations, educational sessions and a trader area.

Lake County Comic Con Lake Count I County ConAugust 27-28

Lake County’s biggest Comic, Toy, Game and Art convention. Children and adult costume contests, skits, and entertainment hosted on our stage both days, Aussie Pet Care’s Pet Costume Contest, and Magic the Gathering tournaments all day. Commander, and standard MtG tournaments all weekend. There will also be massive video game tournaments with different console and PC gaming tournaments. Discussions with panelist and more. 15th Annual Mustang Car Show @ Volo Auto September 3; 10 am - 4 pm

Come out for the annual Mustang Car Show at the Volo Auto Museum. Pre-register a car to include in the show for $15 with online form or $20 the day of the show. No car to show then come out and check them out. There will also be live music, food and beer and giveaways all day. Admission includes the museum.

Twilight Shuffle 5K Run September 4; 6 pm

Run through the historic neighborhoods of the east side of Libertyville. Professional timing. Families are encouraged (no children under 9) to run. After finishing the course, all participants are invited to join their fellow racers for a fabulous post-race party (including light dinner and non-alcoholic drinks for all registered participants) at the new Mickey Finn's Brewery. No registrations will be accepted or processed after 12pm on race day.

This new outdoor show will juried feature fine art and fine craft for show and sale over a fall weekend. In addition to the artwork, festival-goers will enjoy live performances from a variety of musical acts on the music stage, great food and art activities for kids.

Bring the entire family out for the 12th annual Law Enforcement Exhibition. Police from many villages/cities will be displaying different types of vehicles and equipment. There will be K9 demonstrations, a child identification program and much more. As in the past, it promises to be a fun and educational time for everyone.

The 38th Annual Alpine Races September 11; 7:30 pm

Presented by the Alpine Runners, this is a 1/2 Marathon, 5K Run/Walk, Youth Mile, and also offers kid's races. Something for all runners and the whole family. The races run through the streets and along the shores of beautiful Lake Zurich. Gatorade, water, and time splits will be available along the course. Food and drinks will be available to participants at the finish line. No dogs, strollers, bikes, rollerblades or headphones are allowed in the races please.

Antioch's Fall Wine WalkAntioch's Fall Wine Walk Sept 24; Noon - 4:30 pm

The Wine Walks are for those 21 and older who are looking to try some great wine, food, and the opportunity to make new friends. The cost of this event is $40 per person, which includes a commemorative wine glass, event menu, food, bottle of wine, and free drawing prizes. Tickets can only be purchased beginning July 21st in person at the Parks Department (806 Holbek Drive) or online at www.antioch.il.gov. Limited amount of tickets available.
