To all of those that been a member of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard, we genuinely thank you for your service.
Here is a comprehensive guide to Veterans Day in Lake County.
The fifth year of this event is co-sponsored by CLC and Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. The ceremony honors those who have served in the U.S. military and will feature U.S. Navy and CLC speakers, a soloist from Naval Station Great Lakes and a color guard. Before the event, U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider will host a veterans’ breakfast, in cooperation with the Student Veterans Club of CLC, from 9:30-11 a.m. in Café Willow.
Join your hosts David Shamrock and Kailey Schwartzhoff for a delightful morning of pancakes, music and fun! In addition to a fluffy flapjack breakfast buffet as catered by Deerfield’s very own, “Cherry Pit Café,” enjoy a wonderful morning of patriotic favorites as performed by the PTC’s very own “Hummers and Strummers!” Visit the Patty Turner Center as they honor and pay musical tribute to the many men and women of the armed forces both past and present.
Join Buffalo Grove High School as they honor all veterans, their families and friends on Veterans Day. Our keynote speaker is Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Van Zanten, United States Army. VFW Post 981 will present and remove the Colors, as well as pay tribute by displaying the flag for each branch of service. Lunch will be served before the program. This is sure to be a day that will be remembered by everyone. All ages are invited to this special celebration of our veterans.
Special Guest Lieutenant Commander Andrew Tangen, Superintendent, Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County will read the Inscription on the Granite Plaque at the Base of the Memorial and say a few words. Lindenhurst Police Explorers Scouts will provide the Color Guard. Music and Taps will be supplied by Lakes Community High School Band. The first-grade students at B.J. Hooper Elementary School will present all the veterans a personalized thank you card they made in school. A Three Volley Salute will be conducted by Lake County Detachment 801 of the Marine Corps League. All are invited to attend.
