Here are the top things to do this weekend in Lake County February 21-23.
1. Lake County Craft Beer Festival at the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center
Hop on over to the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center this Saturday for the annual Lake County Craft Beer Festival. This Grayslake festival features over 70 national and regional craft beverage makers. Mingle with your fellow libation lovers as the craft brew party is highlighted by live music, ax throwing, an escape room, cornhole (bags), various local fare vendors serving tasty bites and more. Admission to the event includes 25 sample tickets and a souvenir glass. The Lake County Libation Trail participants in attendance Tighthead Brewing Company and Bosacki’s Brewery in Mundelein, 28 Mile Vodka & Distilling in Highwood, Buffalo Creek Brewing in Long Grove, Harbor Brewing Co. in Winthrop Harbor., Light the Lamp Brewery in Grayslake, Mickey Finn’s Brewery in Libertyville, Nightshade and Dark’s Pandemonium Brewing and ZümBier Brewery in Waukegan, Ravinia Brewing Company in Highland Park and Side Lot Brewery in Wauconda. Designated driver tickets are also available for $10. All attendees must be ages 21 or older.
Saturday, February 22; 5-9 p.m. (VIP Entry at 4 p.m. Admission: $60-$90. Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center, 1060 E. Peterson Rd., Grayslake.
2. LVVA Annual Fishing Derby on Bang Lake in Wauconda
“Perch” a tent out on the lake, and bundle up for the annual LVVA Ice Fishing Derby on Bangs Lake in Wauconda. Anglers of all ages are invited to participate in one of the largest ice fishing, catch and release events in Northern Illinois. Prizes will be awarded to adults and kids who reel in the biggest fish in five different species categories. If that’s not enough to lure you in, check out the live music performed by Toby Keith tribute band Made in America, meet the Chicago Blackhawks Ice Girls, snag a raffle ticket for over 60 pre-drawn items and dine on eats from local fare vendors. Registration opens at 5 a.m., and the derby begins at 7 a.m. running until noon.

3. Mardi Gras Party at Dress Up & Dance! in Mundelein
Let the good times roll at Dress Up & Dance! in Mundelein, as they host a Mardi Gras Party. Boogie the night way Big-Easy style for the Fat Tuesday celebration as their dance instructors lead the steps. The night begins with a Samba lesson from the instructors. An open dance follows the Latin romp instruction. Complimentary snacks will be provided, while non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. Be sure to don some green, purple or gold attire to match the night’s theme.

4. Creventive Puppet Company at the Cultural & Civic Center of Round Lake Beach
Need a hand making weekend plans? The Creventive Puppet Company makes a stop at the Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center for the facility’s February Family Fun Friday. This interactive and educational event is led by the company’s host Jeremy J. Giggles entertaining audiences of all ages with his variety show. This event is entirely free, no strings attached.

5. The Orchid Show at the Chicago Botanic Garden
Roses are red, violets are blue. Orchids range from gray, purple, pink and red, and the Chicago Botanic Garden is hosting a show of it too. Witness a diverse array of Orchidaceae donning their brilliant colors during The Orchid Show at the Glencoe garden, which features over 10,000 exceptional blooms. Explore the beauty of these flowers through unique artistic installations highlighted by a towering kaleidoscope, a floating carpet and a dramatic chandelier that changes color with the angle of the winter sun. Think spring and escape the cold weather by checking out this one-of-a-kind show running through March 22.
