Things to do this Weekend in July 10-12

By: Jonathan Jones 07/09/2015

America's weekend has come and gone. We saw the awesome fireworks around Lake County and the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team collect a World Cup defeating Japan 5-2. Last weekend we truly bled red, white and blue as well as stars and stripes forever.

So what’s up for Next Weekend. Plenty around Lake County. Each day we draw closer to the Lake County Fair which kicks off Wednesday, July 29 and runs through Sunday August 2.Oh by the way Lenny Kravitz and 11-year-old piano phenom Joey Alexander and his band were added to Ravinia Festival. Explore Lake County in all its glory as we look at the top things to do this weekend July 10-12.

1.)    The tradition returns to Downtown Waukegan as the Hot Rod Holiday, Scoop 2015, kicks off Friday. Save the date to enjoy your favorite rides at the Car Show & VIP Scoop, delicious Lake County eats and beers and plenty of live entertainment including I Love Lake County Song Search winner Dylan Kroll of Waukegan. Bring the whole family for some scooping down Genesee street.

Friday-Saturday, July 10-11; Downtown Waukegan, Genesee Street.

2.)    Go back to the past as you travel to Wauconda in circa 1863 for Northern Illinois’ largest Civil War reenactment at the 24th Annual Civil War Days. The event is highlighted by an infantry, cavalry, artillery reenactors, musicians,  medical personnel and civilians. Also included in the festivities are 1860s era shopping. Experience a little bit of history at the Lake County Discovery Museum.

Saturday-Sunday, July 11-12; Sat 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Lake County Discovery Museum, 27277 N. Forest Preserve Road, Wauconda.

3.)    All weekend join man and his best friend as they stroll down the streets of MainStreet Libertyville. Libertyville is the host city  for DockDogs Regional Finals 2015. On Sunday enjoy the annual Petathlon, which includes a 3k dog walk, live music, raffle, and pet and family activities.

Friday-Sunday, July 10-12; Downtown Libertyville, Cook Street, Libertyville.

4.)    There is still lawn seating available for the diva queen of soul: Aretha Franklin at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park. Franklin has won 18 Grammy Awards, sold over 75 million records and has been a member of the  Rock N Roll Hall of Fame since 1987. Don’t be in a Chain of Fools. Head to Ravinia and give Ms. Franklin some R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Saturday, July 11; 8:30 p.m. Ravinia Festival, 200 Ravinia Park Rd, Highland Park. Lawn Tickets: $43.

5.)    Looking to try some new brewskis or aged berry drinks? Head on over to Barrington, because they’ve got your beverage of choice. Friday is the 11th Annual Uncork Barrington with 50 quality wines at your disposal, along with hors d’oeuvres, a souvenir wine glass and live performances. The next day 50 unique brewers will come together for the 12th Annual Barring Brew Fest. Delicious dishes are also offered with more live performances, a bags tournament and a 50/50 raffle.
