These leaves are a-changing pretty rapidly in this edition of things to do this weekend November 18-20.The holiday season is essentially being kicked off, with several of the tree lighting ceremonies occurring beginning this week.
There’s just one more week until we get to sit down with the family and friends and have ridiculous amount of turkey.
But before we get our extended break from work with Thanksgiving weekend, here are this week’s things to do this weekend November 18-20.
1. ArtWauk
It’s a little bit of art, it’s little bit of music and plenty of delectable eats as you walk down Genesee Street at ArtWauk. Local artists will be in attendance of this monthly Downtown Waukegan event displaying their many different art mediums that range from portraits, sculptures, digital, photography, film, comedy and so much more.Saturday, November 19; 5-10 p.m. Downtown Waukegan, Genesee Street, Waukegan.
2. Hydraulic Arms: Liquid as a Force
Military and civilian families are cordially invited to the National Museum of the American Sailor for the Hydraulic Arms: Liquid as a Force segment in the museums theater. This free educational activity gives attendees the opportunity to operate an electronic crane. In this situation the crane’s arm is non-operational, so you and your team must build a new one using hydraulics. Participants will learn how to use hydraulic forces, understand Pascal’s Law and build their own hydraulic arm.Saturday, November 19; 1-3 p.m. National Museum of the American Sailor, 610 Farragut Ave., Bldg. 42., Great Lakes.
3. Jelly Belly's Magic of Christmas Tree Lighting & Celebration
Santa, bright lights and jelly beans. How sweet does that sound? Jelly Belly’s Magic of Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration kicks off this Saturday where you and the family can have a meet and greet with Kris Kringle, his lovely wife and Rudolph. Make a memory with the jolly man in the red suit and snap a photo with him for $15. Take a tour of the Jelly Belly Center, enter in a raffle to possibly win prizes, have your face painted, receive balloon art and see the mastery of a magician.Saturday, November 19; 5:30-8 p.m. Jelly Belly Center, 10100 Jelly Belly Ln., Pleasant Prairie, WI.
4. A Christmas Story: The Musical
There’s that part of everyone that remembers the phrase, ‘You’ll shoot your eye out,” and Santa Clause saying ‘Ho, Ho, Ho,’ in an extremely menacing manner. A Christmas Story the musical received rave reviews on its Broadway run and is based on the 1983-movie classic. Set in the 1940s, it follows Ralphie Parker and his quest for the Holy Grail of Christmas gifts—an Official Red Ryder Carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. Be careful to not stick your tongue on a pole this winter on a dare. Show runs through December 18.Friday-Sunday, November 18-20; Admission: $15. Citadel Theatre, 300 S. Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest.
5. Gobbler Tournament at Shiloh Park Golf Course
There’s not much of a golf season left for 2016. Get your last fills at the Gobbler Tournament at Shiloh Golf Course. This Zion-hosted nine-hole tournament will have a men’s and women’s division using the Peoria Handicap system. The $15.16 admission includes a choice of tee time for the three days, the round of golf, coffee and roles and an entire pumpkin pie.Friday-Sunday, November 18-20; 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. Admission: $15.16.
