The Fan Vote is running from now until April 19. It is a tight race for all of the song submissions from these talented Lake County musicians and bands. To listen to the finished product these artists had, continue here. Be sure to share with the world who you think is head honcho on your social media handle.

The winner of the Fan Vote will collect $500 and a performance on May 14 at Mickey Finn’s  in Libertyville featuring the victor and a few other songs in their catalog. There will also be a Grand Prize winner, chosen by a panel of Lake County judges that will win $1000, a professionally recorded version of the song, a music video and will perform at various Lake County summer festivals.

However, we will take this opportunity to feature each of the 12 artists that have entered to win the I Love Lake County Song Search.

Under the Spotlight: Kyle Schardt

Kyle Schardt is an artist originally from Lake Villa who picked up his first axe at the age of nine.

Since then, the Lakes High graduate has received many accolades and played in various music groups (performing various different genres) plucking his guitar.

In high school, Schardt played in the Illinois Music Education Association All-State band where he earned first chair guitarist. IMEA acknowledges the best of the best wind symphony, orchestra, jazz and chorus musicians in Illinois.

Schardt toured northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin with jazz combo Yardbird’s Dilemma. Schardt continued to hone his skills on the guitar as he attended the Music Institute of Chicago Jazz Camp, which led to a feature the Chicago Jazz Magazine.

Schardt does not pigeon hole himself to one genre as he has played from pit orchestras and choirs to rock and everything in between. Besides guitar, the Hoosier freshman plays bass, banjo, upright bass and piano.

As an avid performer, Schardt took his talents to Bloomington, IN where he is a freshman at Indiana University enrolled in Jacobs School of music.  In his addition to his music ability on the Bloomington, IN campus, Schardt is also a member of the Hutton Honors College.

Schardt’s mantra reads, “Music means art, entertainment, communication, beauty and life. Music means uniting the world.”
