Lake County, Illinois will be home to the US Junior National’s Windy City Classic (USJN, www. usjn.com) April 20 – 21, 2013. The tournament features the top female basketball players (ages 11 – 18) from around the country. This will be the 7th year that the Windy City Classic is held in Lake County and will attract teams from 8 states and over 3,000 visitors including college coaches. The event is expected to generate an economic impact of over $400,000 in spending at restaurants, attractions, shopping centers and hotels.
The tournament will be utilizing 6 facilities across the county, with games held at the Waukegan Fieldhouse at Hinkston Park, Libertyville Sports Complex, Lake Forest College, Warren Township High School, Trinity International College and Lake Zurich High School.
“We are very excited to welcome this premier tournament to Lake County again this year. It’s grown to be a very popular event showcasing top high school players and our county,” said Maureen Riedy, President, Visit Lake County.
“When I left the University of Illinois 8 years ago I knew there was a demand for a spring exposure weekend in the Midwest as all of the coaches both travel & college had to fly out east for true competition. To see this event go from 60 teams and 60 college coaches in our first year having a steady growth of 40-60 teams annually to now becoming the 2nd largest spring recruiting event in the country with over 300 teams and 300 college coaches scheduled to attend this weekend including the likes of Geno Aueriemma from UConn is incredibly humbling,” said Chris Mennig, Tournament Director, USJN.
