A large reason that America has been such an economic success story for the greater part of the past hundred years is because of our country’s strong connection to small towns and small businesses based in a free market. In recent years, with a struggling economy in our great nation, many small businesses have fought to keep their doors open and many great American towns have felt the impact.
One of the greatest common traits shared by many Americans is that when we fall down, we get right back up, stronger then before and push forward through adversity. This set of mind can be seen throughout the country, but in particular according to CNN, in a small town called Libertyville.
News giant CNN, named Libertyville as one of eight of “America’s best small town comebacks.” In particular, the news station was impressed with the four-block stretch down Milwaukee Avenue that is home to downtown Libertyville. This part of town features boutiques including The Original K-9 Cafe, eateries including Mexican restaurant Casa Bonita and the famous microbrewery Mickey Finn’s.
Having been to this stretch of Libertyville on numerous occasions, I can agree that Libertyville is a standout community in Lake County that is definitely on the upswing, even with an uncertain national economic future. The old-town feel down Milwaukee Ave. is a charming artistic section of occupied turn-of-the-century buildings that are full of life. Beyond the charming four-block stretch of Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville is also home to the Libertyville Sports Complex, a fitness center offering family fun sports, group exercise classes, rock climbing, a golf driving range, weight room, and more. Baseball fans can also head out to The Batterz Box featuring the largest selection of baseball equipment in the Chicago suburbs and then walk over to one of six batting cages to practice their swinging skills. For a unique experience with the kids, come out to the C&A Robot Factory, where Lego fans come together and build creations that are only limited by their imagination.
During the summer, the annual festival called “Dog Days of Summer” also calls Libertyville home. This family-fun event puts man’s best friend together with their owners for a weekend of outdoor excitement and canine social interaction.
