I think most of us can say the same thing. Mother’s Day is just a week away, and do you have plans? For me however, I have my mother’s birthday on that same day of the weekend, so it’s a lot of mom love that weekend. Happy Early Birthday mom!

Don’t just limit your day to brunch with mom and flowers though. Take her out on the town to enjoy what Lake County has to offer with brunches, gift ideas and maybe something out of the loop, like going on a loop in Six Flags Great America. Gurnee Mills Mother’s Day Shopping Event May  6-8 @ Gurnee Mills Shopping Mall

Come out for a day of shopping at Gurnee Mills. Dawson's Treasures will be putting on this event that includes free admission, raffles, shopping and Mother's Day Specials.

Central States Dahlia Society Sale May 7-8; 10 am - 4:30 pm @ Chicago Botanic Garden

The Central States Dahlia Society presents its annual plant and root sale. Featuring dahlias in an array of sizes, shapes, and colors. This is a great opportunity to purchase dahlias seen on display at the society's annual show in September. Prices begin at $4. Society members will be available to answer questions and provide written information about dahlia planting and care.

Annual Native Plant Sale at Independence Grove May 7-8; Sat 9 am - 3 pm, Sun 10 am - 2 pm

Choose from a variety of native plants, shrubs and trees suited to almost any backyard. Native plants are beautiful, hardy, less expensive, easy to maintain, beneficial to the environment and thrive in Illinois gardens. Native flowering species will provide an abundance of nectar and attract wildlife from butterflies and songbirds, to chipmunks and beneficial insects. There will also be rain barrels and compose bins on sale Saturday only.

Hoosier African Violet Society Show & Sale May 7-8; 10 a.m. - 4:30 pm @ Chicago Botanic Garden

Come out for 2 days of the African Violet Society Show & Sale. This annual show features displays of more than 50 African violets and other gesneriads. Some plants will be available for purchase. Society members will be available to answer questions.

Brunch is the best thing since sliced bread - which happens to also in most cases be apart of a brunch meal.
