NAVAL STATION GREAT LAKES, Ill., -- Rear Adm. Norman R. Hayes, Director, National Security Operations Center, National Security Agency, talks with recruits at Recruit Training Command (RTC) Feb. 13 following a capping ceremony at Battle Stations 21. Battle Stations 21 is held entirely on USS Trayer (BST 21), an Arleigh Burke-Class destroyer simulator. Battle Stations 21 is the culmination of all training received at the Navy’s only boot camp. It is a grueling 12-hour test, now held entirely in Trayer, of a recruit’s skills in several shipboard evolutions, including fighting fires and stopping floods. It is also the final evolution that marks the recruit’s final rite of passage into the Navy. Hayes was also the reviewing officer for graduation at RTC, the Navy’s only boot camp.
