This week’s marks the beginning of the five day event: the
87th Annual Lake County Fair. Besides the festivities in Grayslake, Lake County has a lot to offer this weekend.
Besides that there are plenty of farmer’s markets, thrills at Six Flags Great America and the idea of taking a dip in the pool during this humid weather at KeyLime Cove.
This weekend also marks the beginning of August – and the series between the Chicago White Sox and Cubs is August 14-16. To commemorate the crosstown classic which spurs our rival nature, journey to the Grayslake Heritage Center for the Sox vs. Cubs; The Chicago Civil Wars Exhibit.
Here are your top things to do this weekend July 29-August 2. Also Happy Birthday Bugs Bunny!
1.) For nearly a century, the Lake County Fair has created memories. Events at the 87th Annual Lake County Fair in Grayslake will include live entertainment, food vendors, live animals, carnival rides and games, motor crossing, banana derby, demolition derby, flower show, Miss Lake County Pageant and so much more. Join Visit Lake County as they have partnered up with Knauz Auto Park in Lake County to provide live music at the Front Stage that features acts like Dylan Kroll and other contestants from the I Love Lake County Song Search. Relish in the annual tradition of the Lake County Fair.
Friday-Sunday July 31-August 2; Admission: Adults 13 and older Friday - $8, Sat-Sun $10, Seniors 65+, active military & families and children 6-12 - $5. Active Military in uniform with ID and children 5 and under: Free. Friday all active military and veterans free. Lake County Fairgrounds 1060 E. Peterson Rd., Grayslake.
2.) There’s nothing like seeing Chicago Symphony Orchestra live. What’s even better is listening to the CSO playing Tchaikovsky tunes; music from one of the greatest composers of all time. Journey to Ravinia Festival and listen to groundbreaking scores like Waltz of the Flowers, 1812 Overture and Ode to Joy with conductor James Conlon and Maxim Vengerov on violin at this Gala Benefit.

3.) Spend a warm summer lunch hour at Cook Park in Libertyville as they host their Out to Lunch. Lunch hour never got so relaxing as various vendors will provide appetizing eats like sandwiches, pizza, ice cream and other favorite cuisines. Live entertainment will performed by David Dallison and Friends.

4.) This is the last weekend you can see everyone’s favorite wooden puppet friend, Pinocchio at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire. The story is renowned as a puppet created by a wood carver named Geppetto is given the gift of this wooden boy coming to life. Colorful characters are introduced along the way on Pinocchio’s tale which is a memorable one for all ages.

5.) Don’t miss the great events at Harbor Days Festival & Boat Show in Winthrop Harbor. The Festival includes a boat show, food, live music, Venetian parade, fireworks, raffles, vendors and kid's activities. There will also be a fun dog show, K9 demonstrations, live entertainment, fly board demonstration and much more.
