Things to do this Weekend November 20-22

The holiday season is essentially being kicked off, with several of the tree lighting ceremonies occurring beginning this week.

There’s just one more week until we get to sit down with the family and friends and have ridiculous amount of turkey. If you’re looking to shed a few pounds after you eat some gobblers (and other favorite dishes), click here for a guide to turkey trots.

Before we get to the holiday weekend, here’s what Lake County has in store for you.

  1. It’s better than a spoonful of sugar as the Deerfield Family Theatre presents Mary Poppins. Deerfield Family Theater Presents Mary PoppinsScream supercalifragilisticexpialidocious as your family and the Banks family children find the perfect nanny at 17 Cherry Tree Lane. This is the final weekend you will sing chim chim-eree as you dance up on the rooftops at Caruso Auditorium.

  1. The Great Train Show is America's favorite traveling train show serving more states than any other show. Our shows feature operating model railroads, train dealers, collectors, hands-on exhibits, demonstrations, workshops, and much more! Many shows feature a riding train for kids. There is a play area for smaller engineers.
Saturday-Sunday, November 21-22; Sat. 10 a.m. -4 p.m. & Sun 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Lake County Fairgrounds, 1060 E. Peterson Rd., Grayslake.
  1. Jelly Belly's Christmas Tree Lighting & CelebrationSanta, bright lights and jelly beans. How sweet does that sound? Jelly Belly’s Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration kicks off this Saturday where you and the family can have a meet and greet with Kris Kringle, his lovely wife and Rudolph. Sharrett Studio Photography will be present for pictures for $10. Take a tour of the Jelly Belly Center, enter in a raffle to possibly win prizes, have your face painted, receive balloon art and see the mastery of a magician.

  1. Barrington Holiday Wine WalkBarrington is beginning the holiday season with a festive wine walk. This Downtown Barrington event offers free sips, tasty treats, special deals and raffles from participating merchants. The Barrington Holiday Wine Walk is a free admission event.
Saturday, November 21; 2-6 p.m. Downtown Barrington, 400 Lageschulte St., Barrington.
  1. The Breaking the Shakespeare Code, a hilarious, charming, romantic comedy/drama continues its run at Clockwise Theatre in Waukegan. The story follows a freshman girl in a Massachusetts college that asks her acting coach Curt to prepare for her upcoming audition f or Boston Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. They are to embark on a relatiohnship that spans the next 15 years.
