The Ghost of Halloween Past!
By: Jonathan Jones 10/31/2013
We all have our fair shares of Halloween memories. There's the good ones like first year you trick-or-treated without parents or when you felt like you had the perfect costume. Or maybe it's the not so good ones, like that one year when it rained and was so cold that you had to wear a coat over your Ariel or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume. Either way, it's part of our childhoods, and we wish you all a happy and safe Halloween 2013.

Since Halloween is on a (Throwback) Thursday this year, here's a picture I came across recently. This was one of those good memories that I talked about earlier. I have to say that my brother makes one fierce He-Man... and I'm a pretty terrifying witch.

Keep your Halloween safe and fun with these helpful costume tips from the Consumer Product and Safety Commission:
- For greater visibility during dusk and darkness, decorate or trim costumes with reflective tape that will glow in the beam of a car's headlights. Reflective tape is usually available in hardware, bicycle, and sporting goods stores.
- To easily see and be seen, children should also carry flashlights.
- Costumes should be short enough to prevent children from tripping and falling.
- Children should wear well-fitting, sturdy shoes. Mother’s high heels are not a good idea for safe walking.
- Hats and scarfs should be tied securely to prevent them from slipping over children's eyes.
- Apply a natural mask of cosmetics rather than have a child wear a loose-fitting mask that might restrict breathing or obscure vision. If a mask is used, however, make sure it fits securely and has eye holes large enough to allow full vision.
- Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be of soft and flexible material.
Happy Halloween Lake County!
