The magic of the holiday season is back in full swing as Lake County prepares for the most wonderful time of the year. The radio waves are full of holiday music and cheer, the cable stations are airing all of the classics and Lake County is hosting a slew of festive activities for you and yours.

The beloved ballet ‘The Magic of the Nutcracker’ takes center stage this Saturday at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan. The production includes over 100 performers, thrilling battle scenes and stunning scenery to captivate attendees in Lake County’s largest and most lavish version of the holiday story. Based off of the 1892 play 'The Nutcracker', it is no wonder that the story has been performed many generations for over a century.

In time for the holiday season, Zurko Promotions brings another outstanding antique show to Grayslake’s Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center this Saturday and Sunday. The Zurko Antique and Flea Market event offers antiques such as collectibles, county furniture, estate jewelry, Victoriana, post cards, art glass and porcelains, old toys, vintage clothing and so much more. If you are looking for a great place to get a lot of holiday shopping done all at once, this is the place to be this weekend.

This Saturday, experience the delight in the magic of the holiday season at Mainstreet Libertyville’s Dickens of a Holiday event. From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., partake in photos with Santa in Cook Park, visit the Children’s Holiday Shoppe where kids purchase and wrap gifts from start to finish with assistance from helper elves and enjoy the beautifully illuminated shops of downtown Libertyville.
Saturday, Dec. 9; 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Donations appreciated. Various locations in downtown Libertyville, Libertyville.
The Illinois Brass Band returns to the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center for an afternoon of glorious brass music. Thirty of the area’s finest brass players fill the air with the sounds of ‘the most wonderful time of the year.’ With a cheerful mix of traditional carols, holiday classics and jazzy updates of Christmas favorites, the performance will be an afternoon that will put the entire family in the holiday spirit.
Sunday, Dec. 10; 3 p.m. Free admission, reservations encouraged. Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, 2007 Civic Center Way, Round Lake Beach.
For those that view their pet as part of the family, Gurnee Mills will host its annual Pet Photo Night this Sunday near the Dining Pavilion in the Macy’s wing. Bring your little one along for a picture with Santa Claus for a memory to last a lifetime.
