From public light displays to motion twinkling shows to village and city Christmas tree and menorah lightings, Lake County illuminates the night through the holiday season. Meander through a shiny land of lakes world and don’t forget to snap a memory. The Waukegan, Lake Zurich, Mundelein and Long Grove’s tree lightings are all occurring virtually on Friday, December 4, starting at 4 p.m.

Before the children have nestled all snug in their beds with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads, make sure to visit the man in the red suit. Kringle will be masked, and these locations with Mr. Claus are taking the proper health COVID-19 guidelines. Get on a call with Waukegan Park District’s North Pole Calling (December 4; 4-8 p.m.), have a holly jolly drive-thru in Lincolnshire (December 4; 4:30-6:30 in Lincolnshire), view Santa’s parade on MainStreet Libertyville (December 5-6; 3 p.m. downtown on Milwaukee Avenue and surrounding areas) or see Santa in the park at Grayslake (December 6; 1-3 p.m. at Central Park) this weekend. Gurnee Mills in Gurnee and Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills will be hosting contactless Claus and his elves through Christmas Eve.

Stun everyone with your shopping list this year by creating a decorative glass ornament or icicle made by your own two hands. Peter Patterson Glassworks hosts their open house events by appointment on weekends throughout the holiday season till December 20. Visitors will learn the glass creation techniques, blowing and decorating from an experienced artist at the Mundelein studio. Choose from flat or twisted ornament styles or a window sparkler, and also your choice of colors. All visitors creating vibrant art, must wear a mask to enter.
