1. Holiday Your Way in Lake County

Now through the end of the year, “Holiday Your Way” to Lake County, Illinois for festive family fun and activities. Discover and explore Lake County during the most wonderful time of the year. Lake County is home to various Christmas traditions, holiday festivities, meet and greets with jolly old St. Nick, shopping sprees, delectable eats and other activities perfect for the whole family. Some of the marquee events include Holiday in the Parks Lights! at Six Flags Great America, Santa’s Rock’n Lights at the Lake County Fairgrounds, Dicken’s Holiday and Kringle Christmas Villages in Antioch, Vintage Holiday Village in Historic Downtown Long Grove and more. All of this and more is here in Lake County, your season’s greetings destination. “Holiday Your Way” in Lake County, Illinois as the land of lakes spreads joy this most unique season.

You know what I need, want you to see everything want you to see all of the lights.” – Rihanna. There is no way around it, Lake County is lit. From public light displays to motion twinkling shows to village and city Christmas tree and menorah lightings, Lake County illuminates the night through the holiday season. Meander through a shiny land of lakes world and don’t forget to snap a memory. The Waukegan, Lake Zurich, Mundelein and Long Grove’s tree lightings are all occurring virtually on Friday, December 4, starting at 4 p.m.

Friday, December 4; Mundelein’s 5-6:30 p.m., Lake Zurich’s 5 p.m., Long Grove 4-5 p.m. Waukegan’s 5 p.m. Various locations in the city or village’s downtown areas.

3. Santa Appearances in Lake County


“You better watch out. You better not cry. You better not pout; I’m telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.” Jolly old Saint Nick will be present at a slew of locations, whether it is a mall, an outdoor park, during dinner or other Lake County venues. Before the children have nestled all snug in their beds with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads, make sure to visit the man in the red suit. Kringle will be masked, and these locations with Mr. Claus are taking the proper health COVID-19 guidelines. Get on a call with Waukegan Park District’s North Pole Calling (December 4; 4-8 p.m.), have a holly jolly drive-thru in Lincolnshire (December 4; 4:30-6:30 in Lincolnshire), view Santa’s parade on MainStreet Libertyville (December 5-6; 3 p.m. downtown on Milwaukee Avenue and surrounding areas) or see Santa in the park at Grayslake (December 6; 1-3 p.m. at Central Park) this weekend. Gurnee Mills in Gurnee and Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills will be hosting contactless Claus and his elves through Christmas Eve.

4. Ornament/Icicle Peter Patterson Glassworks Open House Event in Mundelein


Stun everyone with your shopping list this year by creating a decorative glass ornament or icicle made by your own two hands. Peter Patterson Glassworks hosts their open house events by appointment on weekends throughout the holiday season till December 20. Visitors will learn the glass creation techniques, blowing and decorating from an experienced artist at the Mundelein studio. Choose from flat or twisted ornament styles or a window sparkler, and also your choice of colors. All visitors creating vibrant art, must wear a mask to enter.

5. First Fridays MainStreet Libertyville


MainStreet Libertyville invites one and all to their monthly celebration of First Friday’s celebration. A variety of fantastic drinks, mouth-watering eats and live entertainment surrounds the event as you peruse the Lake County local mom and pop stores offering promotional sales. Be sure to carry out or dine outdoors on delectable eats and wet your whistle at participating MainStreet Libertyville restaurants like Café Pomigliano, Chrissoulas Restaurant, Mickey Finn’s Brewery, Main Street Social, O’Toole’s Libertyville, Shakou Libertyville and more. Café Pomigliano offers half-priced appetizers, while dessert munchers can save 10% at Sweet Home Gelato.
