Things To Do This Weekend Jan. 19-21

It's hard to believe that we're more than half way through January already, meaning that each day continues to get longer and hopefully warmer (knock on wood).
With the last blanket of snow that covered the land, maybe it's a good weekend to pack those cross country skis and explore one of these spots in Lake County.
Fight the winter blues this weekend with a heap of great Lake County activities and events.

Without further adieu, here are the Top Things To Do This Weekend, Jan. 19-21.
Waukegan seems to be the place to be this weekend with so many events happening! First off, comedian Terry Fator, the 2007 winner of "America's Got Talent" performs hilarious ventriloquism, impersonations and music at the Genesee Theatre on Friday night. The historic Waukegan theatre then shifts the stage to The State Ballet Theatre of Russia, presenting “Sleeping Beauty” on Saturday night. The show features 65 distinguished dancers showcasing the unparalleled art of dance through one of the world’s most beloved performances. Finally, the monthly ArtWauk occurs on Saturday night. You will enjoy many galleries, live music, entertainment and so much more at this must-do stroll.

Lace up your skates and hit the ice at Lincolnshire’s Skate Night this Friday. The North Park event features fireworks, food trucks, frozen custard, beverages, s’mores and free hot chocolate for children. Free skates are available at this family-friendly event while supplies last. In the event of extreme weather, the backup date is Jan. 26.

Stop by the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum to explore the Grayslake Arts Alliance Fine Art Show. The downtown Grayslake affair features an art display created by local artists complemented by art demonstrations and delicious refreshments. Get inspired and meet other artists at this Grayslake event.
Saturday, Jan. 20; 5-8 p.m. Free admission. Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum, 164 Hawley St., Grayslake.
Discover the sweet story of the cocoa bean at Chicago Botanic Garden’s Loco for Cocoa event. Children ages 4-10 will investigate the raw ingredients, taste test different types of chocolate and practice dipping fruits and snacks into everyone’s favorite melted treat.
Saturday, Jan. 20; 9:30-11 a.m. or 1-2:30 p.m. Admission $19-$24. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe.
This is the first weekend to see the new exhibit at The Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods, “A Subtle Beauty.” The showcase displays the beauty of the Lake County’s various landscapes by local photographer John Wylie. Attendees with enjoy the grace and quiet beauty of Lake County’s prairies, wetlands, lakes and fields.
Sunday, Jan. 21; 1-3 p.m. Free admission. Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods, 21850 N. Riverwoods Rd., Riverwoods.
