This monthly celebration features a variety of mom and pop shopping deals, phenomenal libations, mouth-watering bites and live entertainment as you peruse the downtown streets. While in downtown Libertyville, treat yourself to a plethora of MainStreet Libertyville eateries participating in Lake County Restaurant Week including Café Pomigliano, Chrissoulas Restaurant, Dangela’s Dumplings, Main Street Social, Mickey Finn’s Brewery and O’Toole’s Libertyville. Experience cunning punch lines at the downtown area’s Improv Playhouse at 8 p.m. The stage’s First Friday Stand-Up Comedy features funny men and women Mike Maxwell, Jerry Tran, Jeffery Brumfield Jr., Liz Stockwell and David Carter.

Make a big splash this weekend by taking a dip into the frigid waters at Lake Zurich’s annual Purple Plunge. Proceeds to the brisk dive go to cancer research. Following the plunge, participants and spectators are invited to warm up at Scoreboards Bar & Grill Post Party in Lake Zurich. The after-party is highlighted by live music, delicious fare and libations, a photo booth, auctions and raffles. Dress to impress in your best eccentric garb as the Purple Plunge awards prizes to the most innovative costumes. Registration runs from 9-10:45 a.m., while the plunge begins at 11 a.m.

Lizards and turtles and crocodiles, oh my! Get in touch with your cold-blooded side at the Lake Forest Recreation Center as the Wildlife Discovery Center’s Reptile Rampage visits. Attendees can meet, handle and learn about more than 150 animals, including lizards, snakes of all shapes and sizes, turtles, tortoises, crocodiles, an assortment of frogs and much more. Besides Wildlife Discovery Center, reptile expert exhibits from the Chicago Herpetological Society, The Field Museum and Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum of Chicago, Roaming Reptiles of Wisconsin and many more habitats and sanctuaries will be in attendance conducting educational programming. The event is also highlighted by arts and craft activities, face painting, a scout patch challenge and a photo booth.
