We're under a month to the start of Ravinia Festival 2017. Continue here to see the schedule in its entirety.
We're also under a week for Memorial Day (Hooray, a three-day weekend). Also on Memorial Day weekend, we finally get to take a ride on Six Flags Great America's new ride: THE JOKER. Also, Hurricane Harbor opens for the season that same weekend.
So many events coming up, so little time! This weekend is action packed. After a lovely weekend with mom, we take some time for ourselves.
Here are the top things to do this weekend May 19-21.
Anything is good if it’s made of chocolate. The annual Long Grove Chocolate Festival kicks off this weekend as we celebrate the slow change to spring. The City of Waukegan is altering the ArtWauk, pray they don’t alter it any further. It’s not a trap because this edition of the Waukegan artsy celebration is transforming to StarWauk. This inaugural festival of the Star Wars saga and science-fiction genre during the monthly ArtWauk features free live entertainment, art exhibits, unique shops, costume contests, delicious eats and more. The Buckinghams, the Cryan’ Shames, the Ides of March, the Shadows of Knight and New Colony Six will perform at Genesee Theatre at 7 p.m. Have fun, you will.
Saturday, May 20; 5-10 p.m. Downtown Waukegan, Genesee Street.
For over half a century, the Des Plaines River Canoe and Kayak Marathon has been a hit. The 18.5-mile marathon in the historic Des Plaines River begins in Libertyville at the Oak Springs Road Canoe Launch. This is the United States’ second oldest canoe race. If you are with the family, there is a brand new 5.25-mile mini-thon available starting in Potawatomi Woods in Wheeling. There are races for each age group to accommodate all. Be sure to look port and starboard when you cross the stream!
Sunday, May 21; 8 a.m. Admission: $22. Oak Springs Road Canoe Launch, 15562 Oak Springs Rd., Libertyville.
The opportunity is now to treat yourself to something new for lunch. Lincolnshire’s Food Truck Fridays in the Corporate Center Parking Lot will display a variety of gourmet selections.
