Autumn is peaking and Lake County's fall events will have you shrieking! The top things to do this weekend October 26-28 are guaranteed to be a 'gourd' time!

1. Six Flags Great America's Fright Fest presented by SNICKERS Final Weekend

This weekend marks the curtain call for ghosts, ghouls, zombies and fools to haunt the streets at Six Flags Great America’s Fright Fest presented by SNICKERS®. Thrill-seeking attendees will tread through several haunted houses and terrifying scare zones while ghouls and monsters lurk in the darkness to provide horrifying haunts. This year’s rendezvous includes a new maze from the movie “Hell Fest.” No matter which direction you turn, dolls, arms and masked statues will spring to life at the drop of a hat. Take a spooky ride with an evil spirit on one of 16 world class coasters including the park’s newest thrill, Mardi Gras Hangover. Fright Fest presented by SNICKERS® runs through October 31.

Friday-Sunday, October 26-28; Fri.: 5-11 p.m. Sat.: 11 a.m.-midnight. Sun.: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Various admissions. Six Flags Great America, 1 Great America Pkwy., Gurnee.

2. Didier Farm's Pumpkinfest Final Weekend

Oh, my gourd, it’s the final weekend to visit the quaint farm stand and pumpkin patch at Didier Farms. Several family-friendly rides, attractions and shops are nestled inside the Prairie View homestead - offering some of the freshest fall produce for purchase. Visitors can participate in activities including the Silly String Asylum, pig races, animal rides and petting zoos and more. Admission to the farm stand is free, though individual activities require a fee. Didier Farms’ Pumpkinfest runs through October 31.

Friday-Sunday, October 26-28; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Free admission. Other activities require admission $5-$10 each. Didier Farms, 16678 W. Aptakisic Rd., Prairie View.

3. Lincolnshire's Boo Bash

Families will flock to Lincolnshire’s North Park for the village’s beloved Boo Bash. The Halloween-themed event will feature a haunted trail/house, pumpkin decorating, games, a live DJ, a bounce house, a gigantic slide, food trucks, laser tag, a photo booth and more. The community festival is suitable for all ages and is free to attend.

Friday, October 26; 5-8 p.m. Free admission. North Park, 1025 Riverwoods Rd., Lincolnshire.

4. 'Dracula' at the Improv Playhouse

He ”vaunts to suck your blood”  at Libertyville’s Improv Playhouse. The professional theatre performs the Orson Welles radio play, “Dracula,” on Saturday night. “Dracula” was the first episode on CBS Radio’s hit series, “The Mercury Theatre on the Air,” first broadcasted in 1938. The infamous vampire will be meticulously imitated through various sound effects that were unheard-of at the time of the show’s original airing and visual ensembles. Stick around for playhouse’s brand of improv comedy at 9:19 p.m. The BYOB improv comedy show admission ranges between $5-$20 (an extra $5 corking fee for attendees bringing alcohol).

Saturday, October 27; 7:30 p.m. Admission: $5-$15. Cash only at the door. Improv Playhouse, 735 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.

5. Create Your Own Glass Pumpkin at Peter Patterson Glassworks

It takes precision, technique and a little bit of luck to create your own glass masterpiece. Luckily, you’re able to learn from the best. Peter Patterson Glassworks opens their studio to aspiring artists, hobbyists and average Joes to create their own tie-dyed, glass pumpkin this weekend. The Mundelein workshop offers glass-making instruction on large or small gourds for anyone ages 10 and up.

Friday-Sunday, October 26-28; 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Pumpkins range from $35-$65. Peter Patterson Glassworks, 888 Tower Rd. #E, Mundelein.

6. Night of 1,000 Jack O' Lanterns at Chicago Botanic Garden

Light up your weekend at Chicago Botanic Garden’s esteemed Night of 1,000 Jack O’ Lanterns. An abundance of carved pumpkins will illuminate the Glencoe sanctuary. Expertly crafted squash artworks will line the pathway of the award-winning public garden. Artists spend up to 15 hours creating each pumpkin masterpiece throughout the multi-day showing. Seasonal drinks and fare will be available for purchase. Regular parking fees apply. Children ages two and under receive free admission.

7. Svengoolie at the Volo Auto Museum

“Hit the theme for us, Chas!” Berwyn’s beloved horror-show host, Svengoolie, will vanish from his lair and reappear at the Volo Auto Museum this Saturday. The top-hat wearing host will allow young wereboys and ghouls to, meet and greet the rubber chicken connoisseur, receive an autograph and a photo op. The character’s program has recently expanded nationally, airing on MeTV and has run locally for more than 40 years. Svengoolie’s appearance is free for museum guests, however, general admission ticket prices apply. Military in uniform and children ages five and under receive free admission.

8. Vernon Hills Fall Fest

Kickoff your spooktacular weekend with a visit to the Vernon Hills Fall Fest. The community event will feature a slew of family-friendly activities like indoor trick-or-treating, balloon art, a black light dance party, a costume contest and more. 9. Deerfield's Halloween Hoopla

Deerfield is throwing an autumn-themed party and you’re invited. The two-day Halloween Hoopla event compiles all of the quintessential fall-themed games, activities and events that one could ask for. The Jewett Park Community Center party on Friday features a live DJ, a bonfire, pumpkin decorating, scarecrow building, a professional pumpkin carver demonstration, autumnal fare and more. The Saturday afternoon fest is highlighted by carnival games, hayrides, a bubble show, balloon twisters and more. The event takes place inside and outside of the Deerfield facility. Strollers are not allowed inside the Jewett Park Community Center on Visit deerfieldparks.org for more information.

10. Zion Park District's Trail of Treats & Festival

Suit up for Zion Park District’s Trail of Treats and Halloween Fest this Friday. Youngsters will trick or treat through historic Shiloh Park’s 27th Street tennis courts to the Zion Leisure Center for the city park district’s Halloween Party. The Halloween Fest features gym games, a costume contest, hay rides, a pumpkin jump, a haunted maze and more.

Friday, October 26; 5:30-8 p.m. Free admission. Shiloh Park, 1412 27th St., Zion. Zion Park District Leisure Center, 2400 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion.
