Deploy your landing gear and hit the runway with the top things to do this weekend September 7-9.
Prepare for takeoff in Waukegan this weekend as attendees will witness unbelievable flight performances from world-renowned aerobatic pilots at the Northern Illinois Airshow – Wings Over Waukegan. The F-86 Sabre, the F4U Corsair, the T-28 Trojan Thunder and other modern and vintage aircrafts will take to the skies to dazzle the audience with incredible maneuvers. Food and beverage vendors will be in attendance throughout the show to satisfy your cravings. Be sure to bring your camera as children are encouraged to take their photograph with the brave pilots following the festivities. Families are also urged to bring lawn chairs as seating is limited. Tickets at the gate to this Waukegan National Airport event at the gate can be purchased with cash. Following the show, take to Main Street for the 2018 Wine & Art Stroll. Participants will receive a souvenir glass, a $10 gift certificate towards merchandise in the Main Street District. Grab a map at registration to find participating locations and enjoy the many food and vino samples along the way. The downtown Waukegan event features live entertainment from Sipos & Young and The Band 7501.

The Village of Lake Zurich will host its 6th annual Main Street block party, Rock The Block, on September 8, 2018 from 5 – 11 pm. Planned as an all-ages traditional street dance, partygoers are invited to Dine, Dance and (re)discover Main Street Lake Zurich. Three live bands take the stage for an evening of music, food and fun, and young party goers can visit the face painter and balloon art, sponsored by Lake Zurich Tire and Auto. The event will be held on Main Street in Lake Zurich, (approximately 70 E. Main Street). There’s a party in downtown Lake Zurich this weekend and everyone is invited. The village is hosting its sixth annual main street block party, Rock the Block, this Saturday from 5-11 p.m. Treat the entire family out to a superb evening of delicious dining options, satisfying libations, face painting, balloon art, live entertainment and so much more. The Lake Zurich celebration is highlighted by the tunes from Suburban Cowboys, the Breakfast Club and 7th Heaven.

“We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents,” said zen-like artist Bob Ross. Art enthusiasts will canvas the county this weekend for Mundelein’s eighth annual Fine Arts Festival. The two-day extravaganza features top-notch artists, local musicians, a diverse selection of cuisine and a handful of children’s activities. Many of the juried artists displaying their work range in talents from fine art to crafts in a variety of mediums. In addition to professional artists, Kracklauer Park event is highlight by the artwork created by select students from Carmel Catholic and Mundelein High Schools.

“Hey, big spender! Spend a little time,” at The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire as they present “Sweet Charity.” The musical comedy inspired by Federico Fellini’s “Nights of Cabiria” is a dance-filled production with a world-class score including “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This” and more. The musical’s protagonist, Charity Hope Valentine, is a hopeless romantic who lives a turbulent love life in New York City. Sweet Charity captures the energy, humor and heartbreak of life in the big city for an unfortunate but irrepressible optimist. “Sweet Charity” runs through Sunday, October 28.

He may have “left his heart in San Francisco,” but all of his soul, musically and physically, will be in Highland Park. Winner of 20 Grammy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award, Tony Bennett, will grace Ravinia Festival’s stage on Saturday. The traditional big band singer will be accompanied by his daughter, Antonia, for an evening of classic hits. Distinguished by the United Nations as a Citizen of the World, Bennett has been an integral member of political activism and humanitarian ideals on top of his notable music career.
