1.) The day has finally arrived where La Cage aux Folles debuts at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire. This three-time winning Tony Award musical follows a middle-aged gay couple who decide to keep their relationship a secret when their son returns home with his fiancée. The relationship is kept incognito because of the son’s fiancé, who has extremely conservative parents. A 1996 film adaptation called ‘The Birdcage’ featuring Nathan Lane and the late Robin Williams was created from La Cage Aux Folles template. The play will run from Wednesday, January 28 - Sunday, March 29.

2.) Celebrate the life and times of Jack Benny at Clockwise Theatre in Waukegan. This highly acclaimed one-man show, called Mr. Benny stars Tim Newell. Benny was known for his days as a Vaudeville actor, radio personality and movie and television actor. The show runs from Thursday, January 29 - Sunday February 15.

3.) Searching for brisk air and a battle with some of Lake County’s most unique winter fish on the ice? Wauconda is host to the Lake View Villa Park Sixth Annual Fishing Derby. Bring your rod, tackle and plenty of bait to try and catch the largest northern, bass, crappie, bluegill and perch. Prizes will be awarded to the largest catch of each fish category. If you forget your bait, don’t worry because Smitty’s Bait & Tackle will provide it at the check-in tent. Make sure you show up early, because registration begins at 5 am.

5.) Calling all adults and children, Chicago Botanic Garden is hosting their Weekend Family Class Featuring Winter Explorers. At this event, children (ages four-to-10 years old) and adults will explore how plants link to science, art, history and culture in all of its splendor. Discover how plants and animals live during the Lake County winters. Bundle up for the weather because this event is all outside. The event takes place Saturday, January 31 at 9:30-11 a.m. or 1-230 p.m.
