1. Mickey Finn’s Brewery 25th Anniversary (November 1)

Lake County’s first brewpub turns one-fourth of a century years old this Saturday. The Libertyville craft brewery party is highlighted by live tunes, a few speeches, an open top-shelf bar, an exclusive anniversary beer and a few other surprises. Space is limited, so get your tickets now! Tickets start at $75 per person. Proceeds go to the Misericordia Mercy Home.

2. Live Theatre in Lake County (All November)


Lake County is renowned for its live theatre community. These thespians are performing in fan-favorite productions this month. So whether you’re a jungle animals miles away from home, an artful dodger, a loveable orphan, a cold war aficionado, a singer from Memphis or a She-ro slaying monsters, you can witness these talented performers break a leg.

Embark on an adventure for one last weekend at the farm that showcases an amazing maze of maize. Richardson’s Adventure Farm & Corn Maze is known for having the world’s most massive corn maze. The Spring Grove area spans 33 acres of land and is equipped with 11 miles of trails. Richardson Farm celebrates the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and NASA landing on the moon in 1969. Besides the renowned maze, the Adventure Farm features another five mazes, a zip line, a pumpkin patch, ORBiting rides (a ride inside a giant 11-football), live pig races,  a wooded picnic area, free campfires, pedal carts, pedal trikes, a goat farm, a corn cabin and wagon rides. Richardson Farm is open through Sunday, November 4. The farm reopens the Friday after Thanksgiving and invites one and all to cut their family Christmas Tree down. You may cut your own fir tree, purchase a pre-cut arbor or pick up a wreath and garland.

There is an abundance of courageous souls out there that want to brave the storm of a professional scarer. That said, Lake County holds a Master’s Degree in terrifying individuals. Here are a few of the spooks in Lake County as the land of lakes wraps up its scary season.

“(S)He’d fly through the air with the greatest of ease. A daring young (wo)man on the flying trapeze.” Check out all of these talented individuals from the Cirque Italia perform spectacular flips, turns, jugglers, acrobats, contortionists and more through drops of H2O. The four-day circus event occurs outside Gurnee Mills by Bass Pro Shop. After seeing contorted humans splash through the air, take a stroll through the Gurnee outlet mall.

Gurnee just recently received their own basketball team in the Vipers. The Vipers are a semi-pro ABA hoops team consisting of former D-I athletes, international players and local ballers with hopes of moving to the NBA hardwood. Catch these players on their new homecourt at Warren High School and view their talent as they move their way up the ranks.

7. Lightscape at Chicago Botanic Garden (November 22-January 5, 2020)


“Turn up the lights in here baby, extra bright, I want y’all to see this…cop lights, flashlights, spotlights, strobe lights street lights…all of the lights!” Meander in the illuminated world of wonder and light at Chicago Bo’s Lightscape. As you enter you walk through a cathedral-esque threshold, you enter a world of the Glencoe sanctuary that’s as luminous as it’s ever been. This is a must-experience event for your eyes and your feels.

8. Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Great America (November 23-December 31)

Six Flags Great America kicks off their second Holiday in the Park event this year. This festival runs from November 23-December 31 on select days. The new holiday party will transform the park into a winter wonderland featuring millions of dazzling lights, a beautiful Christmas tree (5 p.m. lighting every night), meet and greets with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, festive entertainment and of course, rides on a world-class roller coaster.

Before or after you eat that delicious homemade cuisine, you may have the itch to run off those extra pounds. Dash down the streets of Lake County, and don’t forget to shake your tailfeather when you cross the finish line.

Cheerio to Downtown Antioch walkers at Dickens Holiday Village. Olde England comes alive in Historic Downtown Antioch with four dozen lifelike figures representing scenes from the Charles Dickens era. Stay till nightfall as visitors can browse illuminated shadowboxes under the big top tent, which is home to the Kringle’s Christmas Village. See scenes of yesteryear taking you back to the era of enjoying the windows of Chicago’s Marshall Fields.
