Old Jacob Marley and a cast of other memorable Charles Dickens characters are lined along Main St and Lake St in Antioch.
Why may you ask? Well, it’s the holiday season and Charles Dickens was a master of writing when it came to Christmas. Antioch is hosting its second annual Dickens Holiday Village.
Watch Olde England come alive on Historic Downtown Antioch as life like figures are caroling, working and so much more. Each collection of statues has a backstory placed beside it as 27 different storylines are there while you enjoy the charm of Dickens, the Antioch boutiques, gift shops and restaurants.
This volunteer public art exhibit has 45 different mannequins spread around in different poses acting out scenes. You’ll see the happy side of the Dickens Era and also experience the sad side of Dickens as you see young children working to help support their families.

Here are some other events occurring at the Dickens Holiday Village:
- On December 12, the Lake County downtown area will be featuring the Dickens Goes to the Dogs event. You can meet Oliver the dog – the real life canine, or bring your best buddy dressed in their holiday garb. If there are enough dogs in attendance, Downtown Antioch will showcase this Christmas canines in a Dickens Goes to the Dogs Parade.
- Every Saturday – bring the youngsters from 12 – 2 p.m. (until December 19) to find the whereabouts of Scrooge. If they find the crotchety old man, he will moan and groan while giving up his precious shiny new pennies.
- Speaking of Scrooge, the Scrooge U Savings is a sale going around participating businesses in Downtown Antioch. Participating businesses include Antioch Cyclery, Cali’s Consignment Corner
JJ Blinkers, Gift, Costumes & Joke Shoppe, Hanna’s, Impressions Count Print Shop, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Selina’s Boutique, Something Sweet, Wilmot Heritage Antiques & Gifts, Zanna Dunes Boutique.
