Are you an apple aficionado, a dessert devotee or simply someone who appreciates the deliciousness of fall? If so, Long Grove's Apple Fest is your one-stop destination to celebrate all things apples. Whether you prefer them fresh, baked into pies, or dipped in decadent chocolate and caramel, this festival is a food lover's paradise. Enjoy live music by Mr. Blotto, 7th Heaven, Made in America and more throughout the historic village. Explore tons of kids' activities such as Dave’s World of Reptiles, craft-making, Sylvi Circus Arts and a magician. Don’t forget to indulge in delicious food from local restaurants and try a variety of apple-themed treats!

Friday-Sunday, September 22-24; Fri.: noon-10 p.m., Sat.: 10 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sun.: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission: $5-$10. Carnival Unlimited Wristbands: $30 per day. Long Grove Apple Fest, various locations in Historic Downtown Long Grove.

Visit the Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Grayslake for their annual Farm Heritage and Harvest Festival. The Lake County Farm Bureau Association event provides farm life experiences with barrel train rides, rope making, antique tractors and rides, craft vendors and flea market vendors. Stop by and see the “Pull” series by Midwest Tractor and Truck pullers, featuring antique tractors, muscle tractor class, outlaw diesel trucks and more.

Saturday-Sunday, September 23-24; Sat.: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sun.: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Lake County Fairgrounds and Event Center, 1060 E. Peterson Rd., Grayslake.

As the leaves turn golden and the air becomes crisp, it's time to gather your loved ones and head to Happy Times Pumpkin Fest at Didier Farms. This charming Lincolnshire/Prairie View event promises a day filled with laughter, adventure and the unmistakable magic of fall. With attractions for the whole family, there’s plenty to see including the animal land zoo, a corny corn maze, a pumpkin playland, pony and camel rides and more. And don’t forget to grab your pumpkin! But that's not all; savor the flavors of the season with delectable treats like apple cider donuts and freshly baked fudge. It's the perfect opportunity to embrace the cozy charm of autumn and create cherished memories with your family and friends.

5. Riverside Foundation Oktoberfest 5k Run/Walk at Half Day Brewery

Throw on your lederhosen and lace up those running shoes because the Oktoberfest 5K is here, and it's blending the exhilaration of a race with the spirit of Oktoberfest! Half Day Brewing Co.’s run/walk will take place through the beautiful streets of Lincolnshire. Crossing the finish line isn't the end; it's just the beginning of the festivities! The post-race celebration is where Oktoberfest comes to life. The Lake County Libation Trail partner's festivities include an Oktoberfest-themed buffet, raffle opportunities and live music by Eliot Levy Music acoustic trio featuring Ron Lincicum and Julia Levy. Prost to a memorable Oktoberfest 5K! The race benefits the Riverside Foundation, supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
