1. Gurnee Days Celebrates the Decades

Fill your weekend with food, fun and festivities at the 46th annual Gurnee Days. The multi-day, family-friendly festival celebrates the decades through copious amounts of events and activities throughout the town. Attendees may participate in a bike rodeo, amusement rides, family bubble soccer, a basketball tournament hosted by the Vipers professional team, ice cream and rib eating contests, a parade, a car show, a talent show and more. When the activities have conjured up your appetite, visit one of the many food booths and hit the beer garden to quench your thirst. Fest-goers can also compete in the Gurnee Days golf tournament at Heather Ridge Golf Course. Visit gurneedays.com for more information and to register for the golf tournament.

2. Lincolnshire Arts Festival

Art enthusiasts will flock to Route 22 this weekend for the 21st annual Lincolnshire Arts Festival. Over 100 juried artists from across the country will display and sell extraordinary examples of fine art and crafts mediums at different price-points. Bring the kids along too, as there will be special activities for children including an art scavenger hunt and spin art. Once you’ve perused through all of the vendors works, enjoy live tunes from musicians performing on the Village Green stage. Attendees are encouraged to contribute to the on-site mural.

Saturday-Sunday, August 11-12; Sat. & Sun.: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free admission. Village Green, Milwaukee Avenue and Olde Half Day Road, Lincolnshire.

3. Steve Martin & Martin Short at Ravinia Festival

Pack your picnic and head to Ravinia Festival for “an evening you will forget for the rest of your life.” Funny guys Steve Martin and Martin Short visit the Highland Park venue with special guests The Steep Canyon Rangers and Jeff Babko. The duo will perform a knee-slapping stand-up routine with aid from various visuals and props. Steve Martin has won a slew of awards including an Emmy, Grammy and honorary Academy Award. Martin Short has received numerous accolades as well including a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. Short and Martin have a fantastic rapport on the big screen as they’ve been featured in a collection of movies like “Three Amigos,” “Father of the Bride,” “The Prince of Egypt” and more. Reserved seats are sold out; however lawn seats are still available.

Sunday, August 12; 7:30 p.m. Lawn Seats: $49. Lawn ticket price increases $5 on the day of the concert. Ravinia Festival, 418 Sheridan Rd., Highland Park.

4. Blues on the Water and BBQ Fest at Harbor's Edge

Sail to Harbor’s Edge in Waukegan to attend the Blues on the Water and BBQ Fest. Listen to the soothing tunes of live blues music from several national and local musicians including Mike Wheeler, Alex Zayas, Nublu Band, the Claudettes, Ivy Ford and more. The blues got you hungry? Munch on fare from a handful of local vendors serving delectable barbecued food and more along beautiful Lake Michigan.

Saturday-Sunday, August 11-12; Noon – 9 p.m. Free admission. The Harbor’s Edge, 175 N. Harbor Pl. Waukegan.

5. Chicago Botanic Garden's Kite Festival

Take to the sky this weekend at Chicago Botanic Garden’s Annual Kite Festival. The Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois will demonstrate stunt-kite performances set to music.  Grab a treat, beverage or purchase a lunch on-site to nibble on during the performance. The event also features kite-making workshops, a kid’s mad dash, various other demonstrations and a public fly time for attendees to “send their kite soaring up through the Glencoe atmosphere.” Admission is free. Regular parking fees apply.

Saturday-Sunday, August 11-12; 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Free admission. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe.
