Restore Illinois Phase 4 begins Friday, June 26 and that means many businesses reopen in this edition of things to do this weekend June 26-28.Phase 4 allows for the opening of indoor and outdoor dining, indoor and outdoor recreation, zoos, museums, theaters and performing arts, meetings and social events, youth and recreational sports, film production, manufacturing facilities, health and fitness centers, day camps and other activities and services.
Live in a world of pure imagination, party on the lawn, dance in the streets, tiptoe through the tulips and/or chat with some creatures this weekend.
Summer has begun and this installment of things to do this weekend June 26-28 is jammed-packed.
1. Pop-Up Movie Theater and Live-Music Takeover in Historic Downtown Long Grove (Rescheduled for Saturday due to Rain)
“Come with me, and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination.” To celebrate Restore Illinois Phase 4 reopening, Historic Downtown Long Grove hosts a pop-up movie night on tonight and a live music town takeover on Saturday. The vintage town will show the 1971 fan favorite “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.” The Friday event features a live DJ, fare and sippables for purchase (and sangria for adults aged 21 and older), movie concessions and a movie menu showcasing local Long Grove eateries like Village Tavern, Buffalo Creek Brewing Co and others available for pre or onsite ordering. Show up to Historic Downtown Long Grove early from 4-8 p.m. and peruse the mom and pop shops as well as search for one of five golden tickets (as portrayed in the 1971 film). Golden ticket winners will achieve VIP seating for the film feature. The Saturday music lineup was not available at the time of print. The Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association will be following recommended state guidelines for social distancing, hand washing, mask-wearing and the implementation of hand sanitation stations.

2. Virtual Living Room Lawn Party Hosted by Kristin Chenoweth at Ravinia Festival
Claim a picnic space yard, grab a Lake County Libation Trail beverage, pack plenty of snacks, prop up your phones and experience Ravinia Festival’s inaugural virtual Living Room Lawn Party. Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth hosts the free hour-long streaming fundraiser. The Highland Park bash also features jazz legend Ramsey Lewis, Michelle DeYoung, Patricia Racette, Marquis Hill, Kevin Cole, Gary Griffin and more. Viewers that donate $100 or more during the first 30 minutes will be entered to win a prize package that includes a 2021 Season Lawn Pass and a Lawn Party for 10 guests with wine and dinner catered by Levy Restaurants. Share your Ravinia Lan Party on Ravinia Festival’s Instagram page tagging @RaviniaFestival and #RaviniaLawnParty, and you could win a prize from the Festival Shop. You may not be able to experience the 2020 Highland Park festival’s season in the flesh, but this all-star cast of talented music masons is an excellent way to kick off your summer.

3. Late Lunch and Latin Music Dance with Dress Up and Dance! On The Move
Salsa the Monday Blues away by dancing and dining through your Sunday. Dress Up & Dance! On The Go! Is hosting a Latinx lunch at El Barrio Restaurant in Mundelein and dance. This event pays homage to dance extraordinaire and proprietor Angela Wilson-Hill who is celebrating 55 moons. The gathering is practicing safety protocols and social distancing as rug cutters will learn swing, ballroom, Latin, tango, the hustle, line and freestyle dancing. Seating is limited and participants must RSVP at 847-535-1530 or [email protected]. Donations are accepted.

4. Chicago Botanic Garden Reopening
With the Land of Lincoln elevating to the next phase of Restore Illinois, Chicago Botanic Garden has upgraded to a gradual reopening. The Glencoe sanctuary currently permits visitors to view the Elizabeth Hubert Malott Japanese Gardens, the Dixon Prairie and McDonald Woods while maintaining social distancing in the outer perimeter. Gradually, more facilities will reopen in the upcoming weeks. All visitors must preregister for a specific date and time. There is no entry without a reservation.

5. Virtual Family Fun: Animal Quest at Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center
Youngsters can have a Zoom meet and great with Animal Quest hosted by Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center. Creature ambassadors Steve and Jessica Reedy will educate and entertain during this installment of virtual Family Fun Fridays. Animal Quest provides an interactive program that teaches children about species undiscovered, nature’s mysteries and the planet’s most fascinating creatures. Free Family Fun Fridays at Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center run weekly through August 7.
