Things to do this Weekend November 6-8

By: Jonathan Jones 11/03/2015

We all benefited this prior weekend. As the weather turns cool, one of the best things about autumn is falling back an hour. Everyone needs that extra hour of sleep.

From the bike trails to the Christmas decorations (seriously it gets earlier every year, to fall fests to outdoor activities, Lake County carries an abundance of things to do every weekend.

Also, we can all bask in the Packers first loss of the season (sorry Anthony).

Let’s see what we got in store for our things to do this weekend November 6-8.

  1. Music, shopping and good eats: What more can you ask for? Join Libertyville in celebrating their First Fridays. Pamper your taste buds with some fine cuisine and wine tasting, bob your head to the melodic and entrancing sounds of live jazz or walk around and search spoil yourself with a nice gift from the specialty shops on MainStreet. The party is in downtown Libertyville and everyone’s invited to this free event.
Friday, November 6; 6-9 p.m. Downtown Libertyville, Rt. 21, Libertyville.
  1. Halloween is kaput. Now what to do with those pumpkins? Vernon Hill Park District invites you to the Sled Hill at Century Park, along with your pumpkins and gourds, for an afternoon of destruction. Vernon Hills High School Science Department head built a trebuchet to launch your autumn fruits. Spectators can view the explosions, smashes, launches and rolls free of charge.
Saturday, November 7; 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Participant admission: $4 per pumpkin. Century Park Sled Hill, 1001 Lakeview Pkwy., Vernon Hills.
  1. Didn’t get enough spooks and scares this Halloween? The legendary Dungeon of Doom Haunted House in Zion will be sure to scare the daylights out of you in their last weekend of the year. Dungeon of Doom has earned its legendary reputation as the most bone-chilling, best haunted house in Chicago.
Friday-Saturday, November 6-7; Adult Admission $25. Dungeon of Doom Haunted House, 600 29th St., Zion.
  1. Head on over to the DoubleTree by Hilton in Mundelein for DiCarlo’s Fall Wine, Food & Craft Beer Festival. This festival will showcase hundreds upon hundreds of fine wines, dozens upon dozens of Craft Beers and local restaurants will once again feature their delicious dishes! What sweetens the deal? An overnight stay at the DoubleTree is only $99 including breakfast.
Saturday, November 7; 12-4 p.m. Admission $35 at the door, $30 for DiCarlo members in advance. DoubleTree by Hilton, 510 E. Route 83, Mundelein.
  1. “Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.” Like Paul Newman in the Color of Money, you can hit the jackpot at the 34th Annual Footlights Event at St. Peter School in Antioch. Enjoy live casino games like BlackJack, Texas Hold’em, Roulette, Craps, Poker and many others. You can also enjoy move your feet to the live entertainment.
Friday-Saturday, November 6-7, 7 p.m.- midnight; Tickets are $10 or $15 for a weekend pass. St. Peter School, 900 St. Peter St., Antioch.
