The food and beverage scene will be hopping as Lake County Restaurant Week begins next week!
What some may not know, is Lake County’s theatre lineup during the 10 days to savor is unmatched. There are also musicians, comedians and bands gracing our fair stages. Complement your experience accordingly with dinner and a show for Lake County Restaurant Week.
“His Name was Coalhouse Walker,” and the musical is called Ragtime. Take a ride in your Delorean as the early 20th-century story follows three groups in New York. The trio of diverse backgrounds includes stories about African Americans during the Harlem Reinassaince, the experiences of upper-class suburbanites from New Rochelle and the journey of Eastern European immigrants to the U.S. The original production from 1998 was the winner of four Tony awards including the best original score. Head to the Lincolnshire peanut gallery to see this sweeping musical portrait of America!

A set of new threads for Masterkid theatre is a must for The Emperor’s New Clothes. Attendees will tap into the minds of the ingenious creators of the musical Seussical (who wrote this play). The story follows Marcus the Third, a nervous 14-year-old boy who is apprehensive about taking over the throne. He decides that the only way he will gain the confidence to rule is by dressing lavishly. He entrusts a swindler who promises to make magic clothes. The message your kids will learn is the important lesson about outward appearance.

“The New York Times” called “Sex With Strangers” a twist, timely two-character drama about lust, love and the complex nature of identity in our digital dominated era. The production was written by Laura Eason and directed by Scott Westerman. The show, which is among the top 10 most produced plays in the U.S, might be the offspring of “50 Shades of Grey” and “Social Network,” but with a better sense of humor. “Sex With Strangers” runs on weekends through March 4.

The year is 1956. Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley have entered the same studio for an impromptu jam session. This historical moment was turned into a musical showing a fantastic adaptation of this monumental rock and roll blip in time. The show features everyone's favorite songs like "Blue Suede Shoes," "I Walk The Line," "Sixteen Tons" and "Great Balls of Fire" to name a few. This musical debuted on Broadway in 2010.

This concept musical follows a man named Bobby, the five married couples who are his closest companions and his three girlfriends. It's Bobby's 35th birthday, and he still views himself as a single man (albeit the three lady suitors) who can't commit to a relationship. This Tony Award-winning musical comedy showing at the Antioch theatre is directed by Fran Jansta. The show runs through March 25.

Oh, how thoust craves summer's wistful eye. Maybe this blogger doesn't perform the best Shakespearean impression, but College of Lake County can. The woods outside Athens are a busy place on this magical midsummer night! Four lovers find themselves smack in the middle of a dispute between the King and Queen of the fairies, and, as if that wasn't enough, a troupe of amateur actors is trying to rehearse a play. Add the mischievous sprite Puck, armed with a potion capable of making anyone fall in love with the first person they set their eyes upon, and you have the recipe for this most celebrated comic masterpiece.

It's time for Animaniacs. And they're zany to the max! The hilarious ‘90s animated series starring the wacky Warner Brothers (and the Warner Sister, Dot) is back in live form in (of course with bologna in their slacks). This touring concert reunites voice actors Rob Paulsen and original show's songwriter Randy Rogel. Paulsen has voiced over 250 different animated characters and performed in over 1,000 commercials, while Rogel has written and produced soundtracks for many animated features since the early 1990s. This show is fun for the entire family. "Hellooooo Nurse!"

Tenor sax player and jazz aficiando Mark Colby has toured with the greats of the genre including Maynard Ferguson and Bob James bands and toured with Frank Sinatra, Jaco Pastorius, Mose Allison, Joe Williams and Charlie Haden. Colby teaches saxophone at DePaul University and Elmhurst College. He performs as a guest soloist and clinician/adjudicator at middle schools, high schools and colleges throughout the U.S. and Europe. Colby will play alongside the CLC Monday and Tuesday Night Jazz ensembles and will show audiences that if it ain't got swing, it don't mean a thing.

An afternoon of sweet and melodic sounds will be blaring from the James Lumber Center for CLC’s Fall Wind Ensemble Concert at the James Lumber Performing Arts Center at College of Lake County. Watch this talented group of individuals, directed by Dr. Michael Flack, perform a variety of musical styles and interesting selections. The musical selections include "Slava," "Second Suite in F, Op. 28b," "Concerto for Trumpet," "A Bernstein Tribute," "Abraham Lincoln Funeral March," "Italian Rhapsody" and "War March of the Tartars."
