Things to do this Weekend October 16-18

It’s beginning to look a lot like autumn. Everywhere you go.

The leaves are turning wonderful colors and you have to see it to believe it. Check back later this week for the best bike trails to pedal on later this week.

While we watch the Cubs hopefully advance to the next round in the National League Divisional Series, there are oodles of events to take welcome fall in Lake County. However, here are the five fantastic options for you and the family this weekend.

  1. Your mouth starts watering once you smell what’s cookin’. For a decade now, Lambs Farm’s Annual Barn Burner BBQ. The Libertyville farm is cooking low and slow at this Kansas City Barbecue Association-sanctioned event. Teams will come to this competition to battle for the Grand Champion title and a chance to compete at other national cooking events. There will also be live performances, food vendors and other fall activities for the family. Also get all of your burning questions answered to the competitors.
Friday-Saturday, October 16-17; Fri 7-10 p.m., Sat 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Lambs Farm, 14245 W. Rockland, Libertyville.
  1. Every third Saturday of the year, you get a touch of culture with the different mediums you see from ArtWauk. However, downtown Waukegan is Halloween town as ArtWauk runs alongside their Fifth Annual Zombie Wauk. Six bands, Vaudevillian entertainment show and street performances as well as flesh eating zombies are walking dead and will clutter the street. Beware of the undead.
Saturday, October 17; 5-10 p.m., Jack Benny Plaza, Genesee St., Waukegan.
  1. This is the final weekend of October Sky at Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire. It was 1957, and Sputnik lights up the October sky over the small Appalachian mining town of Coalwood, West Virginia. Homer Hickam, the teenage son of a coal miner, is determined not to end up like generations before him. This rich and emotional story is for anyone who ever dreamed of something better and reached for the stars.
Friday-Sunday, October 16-18; Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire.
  1. You can’t experience fall without hayrides, bonfires and some live tunes. Lake County fairgrounds brings you all three and more with their Harvest Festival & Campfire. Live entertainment will be featured by bands such as Smooth Operators and Mike Novello Music. Delicious eats and drinks will be available from the food vendors in attendance.
Saturday, October 17; 2-10 p.m. Lake County Fairgrounds, 1060 E. Peterson Rd., Grayslake.
  1. If you crave the sweeps and the creeps, Lindenhurst’s Haunted Trail and Bonfire may be for you. There is an abundance of different activities to experience including a wagon ride, pumpkin picking, bouncing in the Casper Moonwalk, animal house, a straw maze and so much more. At 5 p.m., witness the PM&L Theatre cast performing Shrek the Musical.
Saturday, October 17; 3-9 p.m. Forest View Park 513 Forest View Dr., Lindenhurst.
