Things To Do This Weekend September 9-11

It’s an artful dodger type of things to do this weekend September 9-11 blog. Three different art fests are going on around Lake County.

Seeing the array of colors on the various mediums gives us a sneak peak of the color explosions we will see on Lake County’s natural tapestry this fall. Autumn’s nearly here FTW!

It’s hard to swallow that summer is almost over with the muggy and humid weather we get throughout fall.

Plus it’s a short weekend, so we only have two days until the weekend fun begins all over again. #ThanksLaborDay.

Here’s what we got going in this edition of things to do this weekend September 9-11.

1. Everyone remembers exactly where they were on 9-11-2001. “Remember 9-11” is the theme at the Northern Illinois Airshow – Wings Over Waukegan at the city’s airport. The platform of this airshow is to remember and pay tribute to the sacrifices that veterans gave to our country to preserve and protect America’s freedom. The show will feature vintage warbirds, mock dogfights, aerobatics and so much more. Unlike other area air shows, attendees will have a chance to walk up to these majestic aircrafts, as well as speak with the vessels pilots.

Saturday, September 10; Noon-4 p.m., Gates open at 9:30 a.m. Admission: $15, Military personnel and children under 12 are free. Waukegan Regional Airport, 2882 W. Plane Rest Dr., Waukegan.

2. The Sixth Annual Mundelein Arts Festival promises to be a fantastic day of fine art, entertainment and great eats from local food vendors. Attendees will witness art work by 45 students from Carmel and Mundelein High Schools showcasing their art in various different mediums. The weekend-long juried event will award a cash prize for Best of Show, Best in Category, Emerging Artist Award, Village of Mundelein’s Annual Purchase Award and a student will receive scholarship money awarded for pursuing art in college.

Saturday-Sunday, September 10-11; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Kracklauer park, 100 N. Seymour Ave., Mundelein.

3. The treasures are endless as Antioch’s Fall Arts & Crafts Faire & Fall Apple Fest comes to Main Street. Boasting over 85 booths, this downtown Antioch event will feature an array of seasonal nuggets for your upcoming holiday celebrations. Sink your teeth into a juicy treat, as there are many apple-themed events for your and the family to enjoy. You can stroll the quaint streets of downtown Antioch and stop at unique boutiques and stores along the way.

Saturday-Sunday, September 10-11; Sat: 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sun: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Main Street, Downtown Antioch.

4. Deer Park Town Center has started its own outdoor art show that features a variety of mediums artists have crafted for show and sale. Attendees will also enjoy great eats, fun art activities for youngsters, live performances and much more.

Saturday-Sunday, September 10-11; Sat: 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sun: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Deer Park Town Center, 20530 N. Rand Rd., Deer Park.

5. Enjoy the majesty and elegance of the stallions at Tempel Farms as they close their 2016 performance season in Old Mill Creek. Witness the development and training as they progress through the flying horse movements and a four-horse ballet during their matinee performance. After the show, have an up close and personal meet and greet with the horses by visiting the stables.
