Tasty Tuesday: National Pizza Day in Lake County 2021

Clearly, pizza is an important slice of the Illinois experience. As Chicago being the home of the U.S. Pizza Museum, we're obviously doing something right in the Land of Lincoln.
Today, February 9 is National Pizza Day in the land of lakes. We are aware there are tens of thousands of versions of the ? π holiday and each one of them is vital. Celebrate Tasty Tuesday the right way!
With the newly COVID-19 restrictions lifted, this level of Restore Illinois mitigation Tier 1 permits Lake County restaurants and bars to host indoor dining. Listed below are the protocols bars and restaurants must follow during this phase and tier:
Indoor Service is limited to a lesser of 25% or 25 persons per room.
No tables exceeding four people in a party are allowed indoors.
Suspend indoor service if not serving food.
Outdoor, delivery and takeout service continues under updated hours.
Apparently, the first pizza was made for the Royal Palace of Capodimonte in 1889 (which used to be where the kings and queens of Naples and Sicily resided and is now a museum/national gallery). And the rest, my friends, is history.
We all call our inner Kevin McCallister from "Home Alone" when the fumes rise from the box. That beautiful pie stares back at you. All you can do is reply, "A lovely cheese pizza, just for me."

But with an Italian background, you better believe they make a mean pizza prepared with handmade dough and sauce from San Marzano, Italy. Biaggi's offers pepperoni, Margherita, supreme and Italian sausage pies. Biaggi's is currently open for 25% indoor dining and carryout.
The Lincolnshire eatery is an Italian cuisine restaurant. The deli and market serving lunch and dinner are highlighted by subs, soups, salads entrées, pasta, steaks, wood-burning brick oven pizza and calzone. The fare is prepared with fresh imported and local ingredients. The Lincolnshire restaurant is open for indoor dining, carryout and curbside pickup.
This Lake Forest restaurant is a contemporary and casual restaurant that offers rustic Italian fare like delicious slices of pizza pie. The neighborhood Italian cuisine also offers scrumptious wine options and artisan doughnuts. The Lake Forest eatery is open for indoor dining, carryout and curbside pickup. Pies on this holiday have a special offer at $9.99.
The Lincolnshire pizza, brew and other fare establishment creates artistic beers and has a menu that features have oven hand-tossed produces 12 different brews and also crafts their sodas. The menu also serves an array of wood-fired pizza that includes sausage, BBQ chicken, pepperoni & four cheese, Hawaiian, Half Day, shrimp & artichoke, cheesy, Margherita, sundried tomato pepper, white and truffle. Half Day Brewing Co. is open for 25% indoor dining, carry out, curbside and by an open fire for alfresco dining on their patio.
For a decade and a half, Mambo Italiano Ristorante has been keeping Italian tradition alive for the generations to come by specializing in traditional styles of Italian Cuisine. The facility is structured like a Quonset hut that was utilized by the United States Navy in the 1940s. The Lake County staple has been locally-owned and operating since 1946. Quonset offers toppings like classic cheese, sausage, Italian beef, bacon, black olives, mushrooms, green peppers, pineapple, chicken feta spinach, BLT and gluten-free. The Waukegan eatery is open for dine-in services, delivery and carryout.
Located across from historic Fort Sheridan, Scotty’s on Sheridan is a favorite neighborhood dining spot offering something delicious for everyone — from timeless comfort food to new American classics. The American cuisine eatery’s menu also features salads, thin-crust pizza, seafood, a gluten-free menu, burgers, soups and other delectable fares. Scotty's has your standard Margherita pizza but also has fresh takes with their sausage & giardiniera and white pizza with goat cheese and greens. Scotty's is open for indoor dining, carryout and alfresco dining in the dome.
This family pizza favorite has been in the Gurnee community since 1990. The claim to fame of Saluto’s is in pizza and pasta, but also has delectable fare like artichoke heart fondue, toasted ravioli salads (that include dressing with their renowned secret recipe) and more. Salutos is open for 25% dine in and carryout currently.
Slyce Coal Fired Pizza in Wauconda and Highwood and Vernon Hills
Dedicated to the art of making hand-crafted artisan coal-fired pizza, this Wauconda eatery has a menu that allows them to garner special attention to every ingredient in the building. With locally-sourced produce and dairy and the freshest quality ingredients, the pizzerias make the perfectly balanced pie. The Slyce menu also features salads, sandwiches, tiramisu, gelato and cannoli. Wauconda and Highwood are open for indoor dining while Highwood is open for pickup and delivery.
The oldest brewpub in Illinois still stands in Lake County. This MainStreet Libertyville provides an array of pizza flavors like Hawaiian, Margherita, Mac N’ Cheese N’ Bacon, Vegetarian, BBQ Chicken and many more delectable pies. Mickey Finn's is currently closed till Thursday, February 11, and will reopen for carryout, indoor and alfresco dining on their patio under the heat lamps.
This American bar and restaurant serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Northwoods pub & eatery offers your favorite pies plus salads, seafood, sandwich, pasta, ribs, tacos and much more.
