Things To Do This Weekend April 13-15

Though it's already mid-April, it feels a lot like January 90th for most. Thankfully, it's starting to gradually warm up and things will start to look up for us cold-weather-averse folk.

As the kids say, this weekend's events are 'lit.' 1. Oklahoma! at the Marriott Theatre

Saddle up for the weekend and take a ride to Lincolnshire’s Marriott Theatre for the opening weekend of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s, Oklahoma! The Pulitzer Prize-winning musical ran for an unprecedented 2,212 performances while on Broadway and quickly became a fan-favorite, going on to win dozens of other accolades. Fall in love again with Curly, Laurey, and Jud at this special 75th anniversary production. Oklahoma runs through June 10.

Friday-Sunday, April 13-15; Fri. 8 p.m., Sat. 3 p.m. & 8 p.m. Sun. 1 p.m. & 5 p.m. Admission $50 - $60. Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire.

2. Jay Leno at the Genesee Theatre

One of the biggest names in comedy and television returns to Waukegan’s historic Genesee Theatre this weekend. Jay Leno, known for late-night television shows and “Jay Leno’s Garage,” will perform a stand-up act sure to make anyone giggle. The Emmy and People’s Choice awards-winner has earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Television Hall of fame in 2014.

Saturday, April 14; 8 p.m. Admission $48 - $83. Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.

3. Tempel Lipizzans Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Equestrian enthusiasts will get an exclusive look into the daily rituals of Lake County’s famous Austrian steeds at the Tempel Lipizzans Behind-the-Scenes Tour. Attendees of the Old Mill Creek event will learn Lipizzan history, classical riding background and more. The tour will give attendees several opportunities to meet the stallions in their stables or whilst viewing a daily training session of the equine’s journey to become a performance horse.

Saturday, April 14; 9:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. Admission $15-$25. Tempel Farms, 17000 Wadsworth Rd., Old Mill Creek.

4. Play On! at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts

“With theatre, you have to be ready for anything.” – Willem Dafoe. Students from the College of Lake County will showcase their various abilities throughout several evenings at the student showcase, Play On! Attendees at the Grayslake event will witness three comedic and edgy one-act plays that examine the complications of romance and love. The trifecta of performances will take viewers through many twists and turns of modern amorousness.

Friday-Sunday, April 13-15; Fri & Sat 7:30 p.m., Sun 2 p.m. Admission $8-$10. James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.

5. Night at the Museum - Volo Auto Museum

Though Ben Stiller may not make an appearance at Volo Auto Museum’s Night at the Museum, many favorite superheroes and princesses will. The Volo museum will remain open after hours to provide attendees with a personal and intimate experience with the cars and the characters that made them famous. This event only occurs once each year and all proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

Saturday, April 14; 7 – 9 p.m. Child admission $9, Adult admission $15. Volo Auto Museum, 27582 Volo Village Rd., Volo.
