An Off-Broadway play by a well-known actor and comedian is happening in Lake Forest. An art festival showcases student and local artwork in Grayslake. Travel just over the border for some boundless adventures in Bristol, WI. Get axe-cited in Libertyville. Everybody is a star in downtown Mundelein. Lets take a look at the top five things to do this weekend April 22-24.

1. "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" at Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest

Citadel Theatre pulls the curtains up on the long-running, Off-Broadway play by actor and comedian Steve Martin, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.”  The Lake Forest theatre, two-man show production is set in a Parisian Café in 1904, when the two then-unknowns renowned scientist Albert Einstein and celebrated painter Pablo Picasso engage in pleasantries. The two geniuses exchange intellectual prose about early-century achievements and speculate about the future. A surprise time-traveling, visitor later joins them at the Lapin Agile with his country-boy talents and blue suede shoes. The Citadel theatre play runs on select days through May 22.

Friday-Sunday, April 22-24; Fri.-Sat.: 8 p.m., Sun.: 3 p.m. Tickets: $15-$45. Citadel Theatre Company, 300 Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest.

2. 2022 No Fear Art Festival at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts in Grayslake

The Fear No Art Festival at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts in Grayslake returns giving audiences a slew of eye-opening performances. The College of Lake County (CLC) art fest has featured the unbelievable talent of young adults for over two decades. The showcase is highlighted by a variety of musicians, artists, dancers, actors, designers and poets. Also, the production is complemented by a stunning display of other art including paintings, photography, sculpting and various other mediums created by CLC students and community makers. The annual festival plays a vital role in supporting the artistic development and work of CLC students and artists in the community.

Friday-Saturday, April 22-23; Fri.: 7:30 p.m., Sat.: 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $5-$12. James Center for Performing Arts, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.

3. Boundless Adventures in Bristol, WI

Outdoor adventure seekers can rejoice as Boundless Adventures, just over the Lake County border, is open for the season. This nine-course, zipline and aerial facility empowers and inspires individuals to challenge themselves both mentally and physically. The Bristol, WI entity is the thrill-seekers’ haven and is highlighted by ziplining, obstacle courses, tree climbing and myriad challenging athletic expeditions. Visitors can choose an adventure based on height, fitness level and comfort zone. Boundless Adventures is open daily through November 20.

4. Lumberjaxe Axe Throwing Lounge in Libertyville

Hold your ax-citement and gather a group for an ax-perience. Take aim, toss hatchets and hit all of your targets at the Lumberjaxe Axe Lounge. The Libertyville attraction is highlighted by 16 throwing lanes, two large televisions, dartboards and a unique experience. The land of lakes lounge also offers trained ax-throwing experts to demonstrate the proper overhand tossing motions and safety precautions. The Libertyville lounge was recently approved to serve alcoholic beverages, so hurlers can now sip libations during their experience. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the attraction will host a live DJ. Axe throwers must be ages 12 and older, and tossers ages 18 and younger require adult supervision. Open-toe shoes are not permitted while throwing.

Friday-Saturday, April 22-23; Fri.: 4-10 p.m., Sat.: 2-10 p.m. $30 per person for one hour, $55 per person for two hours. Lumberjaxe Axe Lounge, 216 Peterson Rd., Libertyville.

5. Stars On Parade in Downtown Mundelein

“Everybody is a star. Who would rain and chase the dust away? Everybody wants to shine. Who’ll come out on a cloudy day,” said Sly and the Family Stone.  “The Stars on Parade” outdoor art exhibit showcases 15 fiberglass stellar sculptures which have each been transformed by local artists in diverse themes such as “Alice in Wonderland,” “Starry Night,” “Birds of Lake County” and many more. Each star installation is a rendition of the Village of Mundelein’s star logo. The unique art campaign was launched at the beginning of the pandemic by the Mundelein Arts Commission, and will remain in the village’s downtown area for three-to-five years.
