The weekend is right around the corner and there is no shortage of fun in Lake County.

Keep in mind that with summer approaching, so is the festival at Ravinia. Tickets will go on sale May 4, so keep an eye out for that. Continue here to view the full listings.

Without further adieu, here are your top five things to do this weekend, April 29-May 1.

1. Historic Downtown Long Grove Craft Beer Festival

Sip a celebratory cold one with friends and family, as the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association hosts its Craft Beer Festival. The Lake County fest boasts its largest beer vendor attendance, with 22 breweries sharing their crafts. In addition, visitors can experience beer and ciders, listen to live music and taste delectable eats from the local fare vendors. Of the 22 fest drinkeries, Lake County Libation Trail participants include host Buffalo Creek Brewing, Phase Three Brewing Co. and Roaring Table of Lake Zurich, Ravinia Brewing Co. of Highland Park, Half Day Brewing Co. of Lincolnshire, Tighthead Brewing Co. of Mundelein, ZümBier Brewing of Waukegan and Liquid Love Brewing Co. of Buffalo Grove. General admission tickets cost $50 for brew aficionados. Parking is located in the Stempel Parking Lot off of Old McHenry Road.

Saturday, April 30; noon – 4 p.m. General admission tickets: $50, Designated Driver: $10. Buffalo Creek Brewing, 360 Historical Ln., Long Grove.

2. Model Train Day at Lambs Farm

Calling all hobby train engineers and basement rail enthusiasts: put on your striped conductor’s hat and head to Lambs Farm for Model Train Day. The Libertyville grounds event is highlighted by miniature locomotives courtesy of Valley Railroad Club from South Elgin that visitors can operate, arts and craft activities and delectable choo-choo-inspired treats. Expand your experience by purchasing a Fun Pass that provides access to the rest of the farm and shops. Model Train Day is free, and other Lambs Farm activities require separate admissions.

3. Family Kite Fly at Century Park

”With tuppence for paper and strings, you can have your own set of wings” above Century Park’s Arboretum in Vernon Hills. The family kite fly outing is a free admission event. Visitors can bring a kite to fly from home or purchase one from the Vernon Hills Park District for $10. Proceeds from kite sales go to the support of after-school programming. Attendees can find parking at the Century Park Boat Dock Shelter.

Saturday, April 30; 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Free admission. Century Park, 1001 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.

4. Grayslake Spring Farmers Market (Cancelled)

Get out the reusable shopping bags and peruse produce, sweets, treats and other delicacies at the Grayslake Farmers Market. Visitors can search through Lake County local-made goods such as honey, soaps, fruits and vegetables and place orders for homegrown livestock. The weekly market also is highlighted by arts and crafts, live music and children’s activities.  The free admission event runs on Saturdays through June 4. The long-running Grayslake Farmers Market also hosts a summer edition Wednesdays, June 8-September 28, and a fall installment on Saturdays, October 1-December 17.

5. Make Your Own Pendants for Mother's Day

A gift is truly from the heart when it is handmade. Visit Peter Patterson Glassworks in Mundelein for its Mother’s Day Open House, Make Your Own Pendants event. The “Illinois Made” facility invites individuals to produce mom’s day flair for that special someone. Visitors can select from flat or twisted pendant styles and choices of color. Studio goers can experience the glass-blowing activity for $35 per pendant. The Mundelein staple strongly recommends appointments, and attendees can schedule by calling 847-949-0013.
