1. 45th Annual Gurnee Days “Let’s Play Ball”

The Gurnee Days festival is a 45-year staple of the community. The theme in this year’s installment is ‘Let’s Play Ball’ in honor of the Chicago Cubs winning the 2016 World Series. The celebration includes a bicycle rodeo, live entertainment, a farmers market, Gurnee Idol, a golf tournament, carnival rides, a 10K race, a baby contest, a ribfest, a car show, fireworks and so much more.

Friday-Sunday, August 11-13; Fri 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Sat 7 a.m.-11 p.m., Sun 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee.

2. The 20th Annual Lincolnshire Arts Festival

The Lincolnshire Arts Festival hosts 100 juried artists from around the country in the Village Green of Lincolnshire and offers extraordinary examples of fine art and fine craft in a variety of mediums and price points. Take in the tranquility of Lincolnshire with a wonderful weekend that combines the fun of art with the art of fun. Live music on the music stage, great fare and fun activities for kids, including an art scavenger hunt and spin art, make the festival a perfect family experience. Art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to see the masters at work with interactive art demos and booth chats taking place all weekend long. Festival-goers of all ages will have a chance to get into the “art-filled” action by contributing to a mural on-site at the festival.

3. Santana: Transmogrify Tour at Ravinia 

‘And it’s just like the ocean under the moon, that same emotion that we get from’ Carlos Santana. Santana is a 10-time Grammy Award winner, no. 15 on the Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Guitarists list and is still entertaining audiences with his psychedelic rock. Spend an evening with the living legend as he continues his Transmogrify Tour at Ravinia Festival for two evening performances.

4. Chicago Botanic Garden’s Annual Kite Festival

Enjoy the soaring majesty of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and the members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Annual Kite Festival.  This event includes children’s kite-making workshops, a parade of kiters, a stunt kite performance, a grand launch, live music and so much more. Head to the Glencoe garden so you and the family can ‘send your kite to the highest heights.’

5. The Bridges of Madison County at Marriot Theatre

The Bridges of Madison County is entering its final curtain call at the Marriott Lincolnshire. This show is a stunning two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical featuring gorgeous, soulful music by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (“The Last Five Years,” “Parade” and “Songs for a New World”). The story is based on a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman, who also wrote “The Secret Garden” and “The Color Purple.” “The Bridges of Madison County” is a sweeping romance about the roads we travel, the doors we open and the bridges we dare to cross. There are five shows this weekend.
