Local distilleries, wineries and breweries are being celebrated throughout the county. Anglers of all ages are competing in Antioch. High schoolers in Mundelein put on a cabaret-style show. A horticultural showcase is on display in Glencoe. Get outside and enjoy the elements in Wauconda. Lets take a look at the top five things to do this weekend February 11-13.

1. Lake County Libation Trail Month/Check-In Challenge

Let’s toast to Lake County Libation Trail Month/Check in Challenge! “It’s five o’clock somewhere,” as suds aficionados, vino connoisseurs and spirit enthusiasts will be elated with these glasses of “liquid courage.” The Lake County Libation Trail is highlighted by local producers of craft beer, wines and spirits. Whether your adult beverage is an ice-cold frothy lager, a dry red merlot or an old-fashioned on the rocks, Lake County has precisely what you need to make your taste buds dance. Check-in while visiting one of these adult beverage makers and have a chance to win a new Libation Trail Roster Shirt. The long-sleeved 100% cotton shirt lists all the Libation Trail partner locations to visit this year. Once 50 names are drawn after March 1, winners who respond to email notifications with their name and mailing address within seven days will be awarded a shirt to wear proudly. 2. The 62nd Annual Northern Illinois Conservation Club Ice Fishing Derby in Antioch

You can have a “reely” good time at the 62nd Northern Illinois Conservation Club’s (NICC) annual Ice Fishing Derby. The six-decade staple returns to Turtle Beach Marina in Antioch on Channel Lake Anglers compete for largest and smallest catches ranging in 10 different species categories in the two-day winter event. Successful piscators, in addition to being rewarded hourly cash prizes, will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a two-day guided fishing trip on Turtle Flambeau Flowage or Willow Flowage both located in Northern Wisconsin this summer. The competition limits dense gatherings. Anglers can visit the judges table only to register their catches, due to precautions of the COVID-19 health crisis. NICC members will also be in attendance to sell raffle tickets and respond to questions about the contest. Raffle winners have the opportunity to win up to $500. Registration is $10, and raffle tickets cost $10. Interested anglers are encouraged to preregister online at MyNicc.org. The festival that normally runs alongside this event, is canceled.

Saturday-Sunday, February 12-13; Sat: 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Sun.: 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Registration fee is $10. Turtle Beach Marina, 42273 N. Woodbine, Antioch.

3. Street Scenes Student Show "We Can't Stop The Party" at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein

Carmel Catholic High School (CCHS) in Mundelein is paying tribute to the 60th of its Street Scenes Student Show, donning the theme, “We Can’t Stop the Party.” The Lake County high school hosts a variety show highlighted by the talented CCHS students performing in live bands, acting out skits, presenting musical numbers, executing choreographed routines and so much more. To properly celebrate the Mundelein school presentation’s sixth decade, the party continues this summer  on July 17-18 with the standard Las Vegas-style casino and card games, more live performances, delectable Lake County eats and more. CCHS’s Street Scenes is a fundraising event, and proceeds go to the aforementioned school. Spectators must wear a face covering when entering and during the CCHS presentation.  .

Friday-Saturday, February 11-12; Fri.-Sat.: 7 and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5-$10. Carmel Catholic High School, 1 Carmel Pkwy., Mundelein.

4. "The Orchid Show: Untamed" at Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe

Celebrate the radiant colors of blossoms at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s exhibit, “The Orchid Show: Untamed. This breathtaking-floral exhibit features thousands of sweeping orchids in a secret garden, wrapping themselves around pillars, inducing enlightening visions in your mind. Blooms of other tropical plants will also be on display. On Valentine’s Day and select Thursday evenings, experience Orchids After Hours where visitors (ages 21 and older) can indulge in a nighttime gaze of the Glencoe vegetation while sipping cocktails and nibbling on appetizers.   All attendees must wear a face mask at the Orchid Show. The horticultural showcase runs through March 27.

Saturday-Sunday, February 12-13; 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Admission: $5-$9, children ages two and under receive free admission. Parking starts at $8. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe.

5. Wauconda Winterfest

Looking to embrace the snow and cold with some fun outdoor activities? Make your presence known at Wauconda Winterfest that takes over Lindy’s Landing Restaurant and Marina and neighboring Wauconda parks and lakes this weekend. The two-day festival includes a pond hockey tournament, Lindy’s Fat Bike Ride, an ice fishing demonstration on the Bangs Lake, ice skating, a soup-making competition called “Soup Smackdown” where visitors can taste and judge on homemade offerings, raffles, a Kid Zone, a visit from canines Chase and Marshall made famous by the hit show “Paw Patrol,” a bottle golf tournament, a “Winterfest Base Camp” where families can pitch a tent and order take out from local land of lakes eateries, a burling competition and more. The Wauconda Moose Lounge will be hosting the second installment of the Winterfest Meat Raffle as part of the festivities.
