You would never guess it was winter in this edition of things to do this weekend February 17-19. It’s supposed to be up in the 60s!

1. Lake County Craft Beer Festival

Didn’t get enough of Valentine’s Day? Make your way to Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake to the Third Annual Lake County Craft Beer Fest. Experience superior craft beers, tasty spirits, wine and delicious Lake County eats. Mingle with suds aficionados and hear some live tunes from Hello Weekend. Admission includes 25 beer/beverage sampling tickets and a souvenir glass. The event also features food, fun games and bumper cars.

Saturday, February 18; 5-10 p.m. Admission: $55 at door, $45 in advance. Lake County Fairgrounds, 1060 E. Peterson Rd., Grayslake.


2. Artwauk

It’s an art revolution party in Waukegan and everyone’s invited. It’s a little bit of art, it’s little bit of music and plenty of delectable eats as you walk down Genesee Street at ArtWauk. Local artists will be in attendance of this monthly downtown event displaying their many different art mediums that range from portraits, sculptures, digital, photography, film, comedy and so much more. Hop on and off the fun, free GreenTown Trolley when going from gallery to shop to restaurant. I Hate Hamlet is playing at Three Brother’s Theatre and Broadway’s Next Hit Musical is playing at Genesee Theatre.

Saturday, February 18; 5-10 p.m. Waukegan Main Street, 118 S. Genesee St., Waukegan.




3. The Orchid Show at Chicago Botanic Garden

Roses are red, violets are blue. Orchids range from gray, purple, pink and red and Chicago Botanic Garden is hosting a show of it, too. The Orchid Show is the only one of its kind in the Chicago area and it is featuring the striking Phalaenopsis ‘V3’ orchid this year. More than 12,000 brilliantly beautiful and unusual orchids from around the world will extend throughout the Regenstein Center, including lush presentations within the Greenhouses. There are several special events during the show including a preview, live music and more. This event lasts until March 26.

Saturday-Sunday, February 17-19; 10 a.m.-4 p.m.. Admission ranges between $8-$12. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd.,


4. Elemeno Pea at the Citadel Theatre

Elemeno Pea is playing at the Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest. The comedy story follows a social worker named Devon and her sister Simone – who works at Martha’s Vineyard. The married billionaires that Simone works for are supposed to be away, but the wife Michaela returns unexpectedly. Watch the character transformation of these three leading funny ladies as they visit issues like social class, sibling rivalry and more. The show runs through March 5.

5. Hawthorn Woods’ Winter Carnival

Searching for family fun festivities? Get from under the blankets, bundle up and head to the Hawthorn Woods’ Winter Carnival at the Community Park. You and the family will experience a wonderful afternoon of entertainment, music, a snowman building contest, games, sledding and old-fashioned wagon rides.

Saturday, February 18; Noon-3 p.m.. Hawthorn Woods Community Park, Old McHenry and Quentin Roads, Hawthorn Woods.
