Take a trip throughout the county to enjoy different brews, vino and spirits. Sip on cocoa and support local businesses in Historic Downtown Long Grove. Marvel over the majestic equines in Old Mill Creek. One of the most successful sitcoms gets a fitting tribute with puppets in Waukegan. Celebrate Black History Month with a virtual presentation by the Lake County Forest Preserves. Lets take a look at the top five things to do this weekend February 4-6.

1. Lake County Libation Trail Month/Check-In Challenge

Let’s toast to Lake County Libation Trail Month/Check in Challenge! “It’s five o’clock somewhere,” as suds aficionados, vino connoisseurs and spirit enthusiasts will be elated with these glasses of “liquid courage.” The Lake County Libation Trail is highlighted by local producers of craft beer, wines and spirits. Whether your adult beverage is an ice-cold frothy lager, a dry red merlot or an old-fashioned on the rocks, Lake County has precisely what you need to make your taste buds dance. The Visit Lake County campaign is highlighted by Bosacki’s Brewery and Tighthead Brewing Co. in Mundelein, Copper Fiddle Distillery, Roaring Table Brewing Co. and Phase Three Brewing Company in Lake Zurich, Light the Lamp Brewery and Glunz Family Winery & Cellars in Grayslake, Nightshade and Dark’s Pandemonium Brewing, Zümbier Brewery and Oppidan Spirits in Waukegan, Buffalo Creek Brewing Co. and Valentino Vineyards in Long Grove, Half Day Brewing Co. and Wright’s Brew and Bistro in Lincolnshire, Mickey Finn’s Brewery in Libertyville, Only Child Brewing Company in Gurnee, Ravinia Brewing Company in Highland Park, Side Lot Brewery in Wauconda, North Shore Distillery in Green Oaks, Pazzo di Vino and 28 Mile Distillery in Highwood, Harbor Brewing Co. in Winthrop Harbor, Wild Onion Brewery in Lake Barrington, Harbor Brewing Co. and 9th Hour Brewing Co. in Lake Villa, Vigneto del Bino Winery in Antioch, Lynfred Winery in Wheeling, Liquid Love Brewing Co. in Buffalo Grove and Black Lung Brewing Co. in Round Lake Beach. Check-in while visiting one of these adult beverage makers and have a chance to win a new Libation Trail Roster Shirt. The long-sleeved 100% cotton shirt lists all the Libation Trail partner locations to visit this year. Once 50 names are drawn after March 1, winners who respond to email notifications with their name and mailing address within seven days will be awarded a shirt to wear proudly. 2. 5th Annual Cocoa Crawl in Historic Downtown Long Grove

Emerge out of winter hibernation and indulge in sweet treats as Historic Downtown Long Grove hosts its fifth annual Cocoa Crawl. In prior years, cocoa crawlers received their complimentary hot cocoa specialties inside village merchant shops and restaurants. In the half-decade edition of the confection celebration, the free event features three-heated Cocoa Huts distributing complimentary cacao offerings, Historic Downtown Long Grove merchants serving chocolate-inspired treats with dinner, raffles, live ice carvings, giveaways, free horse and carriage rides and more. “Illinois Made” staple, the Long Grove Confectionery & Apple Haus will provide its legendary sweet treats, while  Lake County Libation Trail partner Buffalo Creek Brewing Company will be serving up samples of Xerxes, their chocolate bacon stout. An array of other Historic Downtown Long Grove establishments will also be providing chocolate delicacies and delights. 3. "How A Lipizzan Stallion Learns To Dance" at Tempel Lipizzans in Old Mill Creek

For the horse lover in your life, visit the Old Mill Creek Farm for its showcase, “How a Lipizzan Stallion Learns to Dance.” Gaze at these trusty steeds and their trainers while they go through the process of “dressage” training. This Tempel Lipizzan segment leaves visitors in awe as each beginner (early dressage training, i.e., walk, trot and canter), intermediate (dancing together, which is the collaboration of coordinated movements between horse and rider) and advanced trained horse gallops and “dances,” (includes the height of equine training with maneuvers like the Long Rein, the Solo Horse, the Airs Above Ground and the Quadrille). The Tempel Lipizzan Program Director Esther Buonanno and Head Trainer Bill Clements follows this performance with a question-and-answer session, and visitors can take a self-guided tour through the stallion stable during this Valentine’s Special. Add an extra element of surprise to your significant other with a gift certificate for future summer programs starting June 19. The gift certificated comes with a plush pony. Other “How a Lipizzan Stallion Learns to Dance” presentations occur on March 5 and April 9.

4. “That Golden Girls Show! A Puppet Parody” at Genesee Theatre in Waukegan

“Thank you for being a friend.” The characters of the 1980s classic television show grace the stage with “That Golden Girls Show! A Puppet Parody” at the Genesee Theatre. The sitcom garnered 11 Emmy Awards during its distinguished run and created a devoted fanbase. The live Waukegan puppet production features stories of St. Olaf from Rose, Sophia’s reminiscent tales of Sicily, the sarcasm of Dorothy and the vanity of Blanche. The performers bring to life the true essence of the lovable characters in this delightful love letter to one of the most celebrated sitcoms of all time. “That Golden Girls Show!” is also a web series available on Broadway on Demand.

5. 39th Annual Profiles in Excellence Presents: Past, Present and Future of The Black Church with Lake County Forest Preserves

Join the Lake County Forest Preserves District for its virtual event honoring Black History Month. “The 39th Annual Profiles in Excellence: The Past, Present and Future of the Black Church” showcases inspiring presentations and performances. The virtual experience is also is highlighted by experiences and stories shared by African American Lake County dwellers. Viewers must secure a ticket in advance at LCFPD.org to join this program. A Zoom link will be provided before the program to those who registered. Registration closes at Sunday, February 6 at midnight. Email [email protected] with questions on the day of the program.
