Happy New Year from the Visit Lake County team to you and your families! We hope that everyone has a joyous and amazing holiday season and now that it's finally over, we can all take a collective deep breath.
What better way to relax and get out of the frigid cold than to enjoy one of Lake County's many events and activities this weekend? A complete list of said activities can be found here. Without further adieu, here are the Top Things To Do This Weekend Jan. 5-7.
This is the final weekend that you can enjoy over 10,000 square feet of sparkling lights and miniature trains of the Wonderland Express at Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe. Watch as these trains wind over bridges, under trestles, past waterfalls and through more than 80 mini-replicas of Chicago’s favorite landmarks. Witness one of the Lake County’s beloved holiday attractions created by designer Paul Busse before it ends!
Friday-Sunday, Dec. 5-7; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission $8-$13. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe.
Show off your skills on the snow at Wilmot Mountain’s Terrain Park Competition Series this Saturday. Competitors will be judged on style, amplitude and difficulty during two 15-minute sessions. The competition is open to all ages, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three competitors. Arrive early to register if you plan on competing!
Saturday, Jan. 6; 3 p.m. Free admission. Wilmot Mountain, 11931 Fox River Rd., Wilmot, WI.
Help celebrate Elvis Presley’s birthday at Volo Auto Museum this Saturday. ”The King of Rock and Roll’s” birthday party features two performances by the best Elvis impersonator in Lake County, Travis Morris, at noon and 3 p.m. Attendees will receive free birthday cupcakes, a free photo, and an opportunity to see his famous Cadillac.
Saturday, Jan. 6; noon-4:30 p.m. Admission $9-$15. Volo Auto Museum, 27582 Volo Village Rd., Volo.
Witness some of the most beautiful ceramic pieces ever created. Dan and Caroline Anderson feature over 60 designs crafted by Warren Mackenzie, a renowned potter. The free exhibit is open to the community at Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of the Art at College of Lake County and is on display for only two more weekends. Attendees receive an up-close and personal viewing of these elegant masterpieces (through Saturday, January 13).
Friday-Saturday, Jan. 5-6; Fri. 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Sat. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Free admission. Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of the Art, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.
Recreational and competitive players are invited to participate in Gurnee Park District’s Pickleball Tournament. Players of all skill levels can compete in a mixed doubles round-robin tournament, followed by single elimination playoff for the top four teams. Participants must be 21 years old or older, and are asked to preregister online at
gurneeparkdistrict.com.
