1. The Neverly Brothers at James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at College of Lake County in Grayslake

Shake, rattle and roll through one of the most exciting chapters in music history. “From Elvis to The Beatles” featuring The Neverly Brothers heads to the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County (CLC). The musical act pays homage to 1950s rhythm and blues, rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly with an electrifying performance and infectious energy. The performer’s repertoire includes songs from iconic rock pioneers like Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and more. 2. "Sails Unfurled: The Dawn of the U.S. Navy, 1775-1865" at the National Museum of the American Sailor in Great Lakes

Anchors aweigh and explore the high seas at the “Sails Unfurled: The Dawn of the U.S. Navy, 1775-1865” exhibit at the National Museum of the American Sailor. Visit the Naval Station Great Lakes museum through a recreated lower deck of the USS Constitution, and discover how early sailors worked and lived. Dive into the immersive exhibit as it showcases the seamen’s experience from the American Revolution through the Civil War highlighted by music from the era, a knot tying station, an embroidered 1840s seabag, 18th-century clothing and more. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Friday-Saturday, January 21-22; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free. The National Museum of the American Sailor, 2531 Sheridan Rd., Building 42, Great Lakes.

3. Lumberjaxe Axe Throwing Lounge in Libertyville

Hold your ax-citement and gather a group for an ax-perience. Take aim, toss hatchets and hit all of your targets at the Lumberjaxe Axe Lounge. The Libertyville attraction is highlighted by 16 throwing lanes, two large televisions, dartboards and a unique experience. The land of lakes lounge also offers trained ax-throwing experts to demonstrate the proper overhand tossing motions and safety precautions. Axe throwers must be ages 12 and older. Tossers at the Libertyville pit ages 18 and younger require adult supervision. Open-toe shoes are not permitted while throwing.

4. WhirlyBall in Vernon Hills

Compete in a game that combines lacrosse, hockey, basketball and souped-up bumper cars at WhirlyBall in Vernon Hills. The exhilarating contest involves a scoop, much like a lacrosse head, a whiffle ball and your driving skills in a “WhirlyBug.” The objective of the 10-minute game is to toss around the whiffle ball with your teammates and score points by launching the sphere in the basket.  The Vernon Hills facility also is highlighted by laser tag, billiards and other pop-up games like ping pong, Jenga Giant and bags/cornhole. WhirlyBall also offers a full bar and restaurant called The Pivot Room. The menu is highlighted by appetizers, wings, craft pizzas, sandwiches and a large selection of signature cocktails, vino and craft beers.

5. Extreme Flight Simulation in Gurnee

Take off into the blue skies without ever actually leaving the ground at Extreme Flight Simulation. The Gurnee establishment is home to the only Midwest flight simulator facility that accurately reproduces the flight deck of the Boeing 737 Next Generation (737 NG) airplane or an F/18 fighter jet. No flying experience is necessary as instructors will guide you through the cockpit simulator experience. You can takeoff from and land in over 24,000 airports worldwide. Visitors can also explore the Xtreme Virtual Reality Lounge that is located on-site. Put on the VR headset to play immersive and unique games like Beat Saber or Minecraft VR. Visitors can also indulge in the Gurnee center’s virtual escape room.
