1.) The oldest outdoor concert series in the country has returned for its 111th year to Highland Park as Ravinia Festival opens their doors for the season. Ravinia kicks off their all-summer series with Dan Zane & Friend’s interactive , family-friendly show on Saturday morning, while Sunday features Mariachi Divas all on the new kid’s lawn.

2.) Can’t get enough of horses after American Pharaoh notched the first Triple Crown in 37 years? Enjoy the majesty and elegance of the stallions at Tempel Farms as they kick off their performance season in Old Mill Creek. Witness the development and training as they progress through the flying horse movements and a four-horse ballet during their matinee performance. Enjoy the café open for meals at noon and after the show have an up close and personal meet and greet with the horses where you can visit and tour the stables.

3.) For two decades, Downtown Grayslake has promised and delivered fantastic displays of artwork. For one day only, Grayslake will host its 20th Annual Arts Festival featuring over 60 artists from all over the Midwest that will present a variety of mediums including pottery, watercolor, oil, pastel painting, pen and ink drawing, wood, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, functional art and more. A high school exhibit will also be included in the festivities.

4.) City of Angels at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire is set in the city of Los Angeles in the 1940s. It’s double the laughs and double the intrigue as two plots unfold at once when a young New York writer is brought to Los Angeles to turn his best-selling crime novel into a screenplay. As we follow the writer’s struggles in the film industry, the novel’s private-eye comes to life in the evening’s split screen plot.

5.) The sweet treats from Jelly Belly are your disposal as they host their annual Summer Carnival all weekend. Bring the whole family out for four days of fun. Celebrate summer with carnival rides, midway games and more at the Jelly Belly Visitor Center. Unlimited rides Friday-Sunday from 12-4 p.m.
