Make it a day along the way to one of the top five events in Lake County by stopping at other local businesses, hidden gems and special events. Here’s this weekend’s edition of the top five things to do in Lake County, June 25-27.

1. Historic Downtown Long Grove Strawberry Fest

Have a “berry” tasty weekend in Historic Downtown Long Grove at their decades old tradition, the Strawberry Fest. Local vendors will be serving strawberry-centric cuisine all weekend long. From crêpes to deep fried berries to classic chocolate covered strawberries, the unique twists on the fruit of the weekend will ease your sweet tooth. Paired with the strawberry-fused foods, the festival features live music acts on multiple stages, a classic carnival with rides, unique shopping, other various summertime eats and many kid-tivities. Parking for “summer’s sweetest suburban fest” is located at Archer Lot and Stemple Lot, Long Grove Community Church and The Golf Dome at the Buffalo Grove Park District located at 801 McHenry Rd., Buffalo Grove. The remote parking shuttle runs Saturday 11:15 a.m.-11:15 p.m. and Sunday 11:15 a.m.-6:15 p.m., running every 10 minutes. Tickets can be purchased online at LongGrove.org. The carnival requires separate admissions.

Friday-Sunday, June 25-27; Fri: noon – 11 p.m., Sat: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m., Sun: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Admission: $5 per person, kids ages six and under receive free admission. Free admission on Friday, June 25 before 2 p.m. Historic Downtown Long Grove, various locations. 

2. Taste of Grayslake Family Picnic and Fireworks 

The Taste of Grayslake Family Picnic and Fireworks is brought to Lake County early courtesy of the red, white and blue. The early Grayslake Park District Independence Day Celebration is highlighted by live music from Vinyl Gold Mine and GOOROOS, local food and libation vendors, carnival rides perfect for kiddos and a patriotic firework show at dusk. Families and groups are invited to rent a VIP tent to ensure social distancing and sun protection. Parking is available at Grayslake Central HIgh School and Grayslake Middle School. 

Saturday, June 26; 3 – 10 p.m., Free admission. Central Park, 205 Library Ln., Grayslake. 

3. Antioch Street Market and Kids Flea Market

“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy local, which is almost the same thing.” Support the small shops and vendors of northern Lake County townships at the Antioch Street Market and Kids Flea Market. The market offers various items from local, rural and urban street fairs. The downtown area’s street fair has a kid’s flea market, featuring trinkets and creations all owned and made by kids. The monthly event occurs on the last Sunday of every month through September 26. 

Sunday, June 27; 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Free admission. Downtown Antioch, 900 Skidmore Dr., Antioch. 

4. Midsommar Celebration at North Shore Distillery 

Singer, songwriter and exceptional ax player John Mayer sang it best in his song “Wildfire,” “A little bit of summer’s what the whole year’s all about.” The longest day of the year may have passed, but the Lake County Libation Trail partner North Shore Distillery is throwing a party in honor of it called the Midsommar Celebration. The Green Oaks distillery’s annual event includes a fire pit, paper witches, flower crowns, the Midsommar pole and live entertainment from The Swedish Glee Club. Sip on the classic cocktails and spirits and celebrate the official start of summer at the Land of Lincoln’s first distillery. 

Saturday, June 26; 5 – 9 p.m. Free admission. North Shore Distillery, 13990 Rockland Rd.,Green Oaks. 

5. Deer Park Town Center Art Show

After a year hiatus due to the pandemic, Deer Park Town Center’s Art Show returns to the southwest Lake County village. The half-decade old exhibition is highlighted by over 50 juried artists showcasing an array of art mediums like portraits, sculptures, crafts, jewelry and other impressive works. Admission and parking is free and open to the public. Visitors must reserve hour-long time slots at ShopDeerParkTownCenter.com. Leashed canines are welcome to peruse the artistic expressions as well.

Saturday-Sunday, June 26-27; Sat. and Sun.: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Deer Park Town Center, 20530 N. Rand Rd., Deer Park.
