Whatever it is that you plan on doing this weekend, plan for fun as we check out the top things to do this weekend May 12-14.
When spring arrives in Lake County, so does the Antioch Civic Club Annual Spring Carnival. This affair is a nostalgic and old-fashioned event where all of our favorite foods and rides are at our disposal. Unlimited daily wristbands are available for all of the thrilling festivities for $25 in this downtown Antioch party. The carnival is held in the municipal lot located off Toft Avenue.
Friday-Sunday, May 12-14; Friday 6-11 p.m., Saturday 1-11 p.m., Sunday 1-6 p.m. Downtown Antioch, 460 Orchard St., Antioch.
Treat mom out to the two-day brew Third Annual Lake Zurich Craft Beer Fest in Paulus Park. Attendees will be able to sample more than 40-craft beers by prestigious local and regional breweries. The fest also features live music and plenty of eats for purchase. All attendees will receive a souvenir 3-ounce tasting glass. This is a 21 and older event.
Friday-Saturday, May 12-13; 5-10 p.m. Tickets in advance: $39, tickets onsite: $50, designated drivers: $10. Paulus Park, 200 S. Rand Rd., Lake Zurich.
Under the Streetlamp, a talented quartet, delivers a nostalgic evening of American standards and classic hits performed by leading former cast members of the Tony Award-winning musical, “Jersey Boys!” Don’t miss an evening of all of your favorite tunes from different genres ranging from doo-wop, Motown, rock n’ roll and more at the historic Genesee Theatre in downtown Waukegan.
Friday, May 12; 7:30 p.m. Ticket price: $25-$40. Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.
Enjoy a brisk jog with mother dearest as the Zion Park District Sports Arena hosts Mama’s 5K Run. The race begins and ends in front of the Zion Leisure Center. The first 200 participants that register will receive a race shirt and goodie bag. Raffle prizes, delicious eats and awards are presented following the contest.
Saturday, May 13; 8 a.m. Zion Park District Sports Arena, 2400 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion.
Choose from a variety of native plants, shrubs and trees suited to almost any backyard for a two-day Annual Native Plant Sale at Independence Grove in Libertyville. Native plants are beautiful, hardy, less expensive, easy to maintain and lucrative to the environment. These native flowering species provide an abundance of nectar and attract wildlife such as songbirds, chipmunks, butterflies and other beneficial insects. There will also be rain barrels and compost bins for sale on Saturday only. This event is a perfect date for you and mama bear for Mother’s Day weekend. All plant sales are final in this free admission event.
