The holiday season is upon us, and Lake County has about as many events lined up as you have tasks on your to-do list.

Here are your top things to do this weekend November 10-12.
Relish the beginning of the holiday season with a grand fireworks display as Deer Park Town Center celebrates Santa’s arrival. The man in the red suit will be available to visit with children after he turns on the bright, spectacular lights. After meeting with Santa, kids will also receive a free pouch of magical reindeer food to feed his trusty steeds.

Might as well pitch a tent ⛺ outside of the Genesee Theatre because this weekend offers two shows you can't miss on back-to-back nights. Your favorite hit songs will be played live this weekend as Kansas and the Brian Setzer Orchestra take the Genesee Theatre’s stage. Kansas, performing Friday evening, is a three-time multi-platinum album band known for songs like “Dust in the Wind” and “Carry on Wayward Son.” Saturday’s featured performers at the Genesee, Brian Setzer Orchestra, are best known for their cover of Louis Prima’s “Jump Jive an’ Wail.” Back-to-back nights of nostalgic rock and swing make the Waukegan theatre the place to be this weekend.

It isn’t a dream. ‘Sleeping Beauty’ is taking the stage at the Marriott Theatre Lincolnshire. Come visit this colorful kingdom where the vengeful sorceress Magenta places a wicked curse on the beautiful Princess Amber. Don’t miss out on this captivating and colorful, musical fairy tale. See it for yourself or bring the kiddos with to show them what classic Disney was like. Let the nostalgia begin!

Everyone loves a good, humbling, heartwarming story. The James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County features the play ‘Street Scene.’ Set entirely on the front stoop of an apartment building and surrounding street, this remarkable play explores the comedy and tragedy of daily life through the experiences of working class families and new immigrants. With the amount of five-star ratings that this play receives, it is one that you certainly won't want to miss.

Crack the codes of cryptography at the National Museum of the American Sailor in a Veterans Day edition of STEM Saturday. This free admission, educational session entitled Basics of Cryptography: The Caesar Cipher will teach students about the history of cryptography and how the U.S. Navy uses encrypted messages. Attendees also have the opportunity to create their own ‘Caesar Cipher’ and learn about how to decipher messages from other students. This is the perfect mix of educational and fun, plus, you get to spend time with Veterans on Veterans Day. Win-win.
