With a subtle, comfortable breeze in the air resembling fall, here are your top five things to do this weekend September 8-10.
Viewers will witness an unbelievable flight performance by the world-renowned aerobatic pilots at the Waukegan Regional Airport. The Northern Illinois Airshow – Wings Over Waukegan features vintage military crafts like the F-86 Sabre, delicious eats, mouthwatering drinks, photo-ops with the brave pilots and more. Don’t forget your camera so you can capture the best snapshots. As these captains of flight have said in the past and what pilots will exclaim in the future, “Aim High…Fly-Fight-Win.”
Saturday, September 9; noon-4 p.m. Gates open at 9:30 a.m. Admission $15 (cash only). Military personnel and children under 12 receive free admission entry. Waukegan Regional Airport, 2882, W. Plane Rest Dr., Waukegan.
Are you ready to fight for your right to party? Lake Zurich hosts their Fifth Annual Rock the Block Party between Church Street and Old Rand Road. Enjoy the live music, the adult beverages and delicious dishes from the food trucks. The kids will be immersed in the giant slide, face painting and balloon art. Admission is free but the donations of three unopened, non-perishable food products encouraged. Donors will receive a raffle ticket. Drinking wristbands are available for $1 for individuals 21 and over. The block party features live music from Rockstar Radio, Boy Band Review and 7th Heaven.
Saturday, September 9; 5-11 p.m. Downtown Lake Zurich, East Main Street, Lake Zurich.
The weekend long juried event will showcase the talents of exceptional artists and craftspeople in a variety of media. Student artwork from Mundelein and Carmel Catholic High Schools will also be highlighted. Bring the family! Share a magical day in the park enjoying original artwork, live music and a tasty assortment of food from local eateries.
Saturday-Sunday, September 9-10; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Kracklauer Park, 100 N. Seymour Ave., Mundelein.
Gallop your way towards Tempel Lipizzans in Old Mill Creek. The majestic steeds progress through their flying horse performances and a four-horse ballet for their final show in 2017. Following the show, attendees will explore the rich Lipizzan history, the methods of classical riding and receive a tour of the stables.

Everyone’s appetite could use a treat every now and then. Lincolnshire’s Food Truck Fridays in the Corporate Center Parking Lot will display a variety of gourmet selections. Follow your nose to the variety of delicious aromas wafting through the air while a delectable dish is prepared right in front of your eyes. The foodie frenzy occurs every Friday through September 22.
