Here are the things to do this weekend September 9-11, 2022.

1. #LetsSnapLakeCounty Photo Contest

“A picture is worth a thousand words” is an adage as old as time itself. Visit Lake County wants to see how true that is with the third installment of the #LetsSnapLakeCounty Photo Contest. From the colorful trees in the vast green spaces to family fun at the pumpkin farm, from boasting your cuisine to sipping a seasonal ale at a local brewery, to capturing a neat shot of main street with a drone and everything in between, local shutterbugs can submit pictures for various categories. An individual may submit up to five photos. Up to seven winners of the #LetsSnapLakeCounty Photo Contest can win a $100 VISA gift card as well as a photo credit in future tourism marketing materials. Head to VisitLakeCounty.org/Lets-Snap-Lake-County-Photo-Contest for submission or post your pictures on Instagram using the contest’s hashtag. Later this year, Visit Lake County will announce a grand prize winner as well as winners in the following categories: Outdoor Photos, Family/People Imagery, Dining/Libations, Lake County Events, Video and Other Travel Culture (i.e. architecture, downtown areas, photomanipulation, shopping, drone and more). The photo contest ends October 31.

Friday-Sunday, September 9-11. Various locations in Lake County.

2. Richardson Adventure Farm Sunflower Festival and Corn Maze

Be amazed by the mazes of maize and sunflowers as far as the eye can see at Richardson Adventure Farm. The Spring Grove farm spans 33 acres of land and is equipped with 11 miles of trails. There are 13 acres of sunflowers planted in a whimsical design that showcases 25 varieties of versatile blooms. Besides the renowned maze, Richardson Adventure Farm features another five mazes, a zip line, a pumpkin patch, ORBiting rides (a ride inside a giant 11-foot ball), live pig races, a wooded picnic area, free campfires, pedal carts, pedal trikes, a goat farm, a corn cabin and wagon rides. Admission includes entrance into the corn maze, sunflower field and access to the activities area around Richardson Lake. In addition, Richardson Adventure Farm features live music on select dates over the weekends. The Spring Grove facility is open on select days through late October.
