Things to do this Weekend February 10-12

It’s starting to get a bit colder, but the days are getting longer. Odd order.

Here is a glimpse of what’s going on this weekend February 10-12.


1. Mamma Mia! at Marriott Theatre

ABBA’s hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father on a Greek island paradise. Sophie, the story’s protagonist, read her mom’s diary from 20 years ago and secretly invites the three men her mom wrote about to her own wedding. Follow this enchanting story and remember to always dance like a queen. The show runs until April 2.

Friday-Sunday, February 10-12. Admission ranges between $50-$60. Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriot Dr., Lincolnshire.



2. 43rd Annual Carmel Street Scenes ‘Spaces Out’

We celebrate 43 years of Carmel High School’s Street Scenes. This year’s theme is ‘Spaces Out.’ The school is transformed into a party town atmosphere with more than 50-live bands, a huge casino, drinks and eats from Lake County restaurants, comedy clubs and the famous student show in the Carmel auditorium. Carmel’s   gym is converted into a Las Vegas-style casino with Blackjack, poker, roulette, Wheel of Fortune and other popular games. Attendees must be 21 and older.

Friday-Saturday, February 10-11; doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Carmel Catholic High School, 1 Carmel Pkwy., Mundelein.



3. The Orchid Show at Chicago Botanic Garden

Roses are red, violets are blue. Orchids range from gray, purple, pink and red and Chicago Botanic Garden is hosting a show of it, too. The Orchid Show is the only one of its kind in the Chicago area and it is featuring the striking Phalaenopsis ‘V3’ orchid this year. More than 12,000 brilliantly beautiful and unusual orchids from around the world will extend throughout the Regenstein Center, including lush presentations within the Greenhouses. There are several special events during the show including a preview, live music and more. This event lasts until March 26.

Saturday-Sunday, February 11-12; 10 a.m.-4 p.m.. Admission ranges between $8-$12. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe.


4. CLC’s 33rd Annual Salute to Gospel


Enjoy an exciting evening of gospel music at the CLC’s 33rd Annual Salute to Gospel Music program featuring Ricky Dillard who is one of gospel music’s most renowned choir directors and performers, a musician, producer and songwriter best known for founding and leading The New Generation Chorale of Chicago (now called the New G). The CLC Gospel Choir, directed by Charles Thomas Hayes, will also perform.

Saturday, February 11; 7 p.m. Admission is $25. Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.


5. Skokie Valley Astronomers at Ryerson

‘Ground control to Major Tom,’ Are you looking to take a journey with Ziggy Stardust or search the sky for Lucy with diamonds? Join Ryerson Woods for a family event with Skokie Valley Astronomers. Adults and children will learn about an array of topics in astronomy and observe the Lake County night sky with binoculars or a telescope. Attendees of this free event are to meet at the welcome center.

Friday, February 10; 8-10 p.m. Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods, 21950 N. Riverwoods Rd., Riverwoods.
