While some may be getting ready to go back to school, summer is still going strong in Lake County! There are still plenty of fun events going on across the area that make it easy to squeeze every ounce of fun from summer 2014.

Below are a few events that you should check out this weekend, August 8, 9 and 10. But this is only a taste of what’s happening in Lake County. As always, check out our Calendar of Events page for more fun events and activities.

42^nd Annual Gurnee Days Celebrations

Thursday, August 7, 2014 through Sunday, August 10, 2014

Join friends and family for the 42^nd annual Gurnee Days. Thursday's (Aug. 7) activities include bicycle rodeo, Sounds of Summer Concert and a Teen Pool Party. Friday (Aug. 8) includes Farmers Market, Gurnee Idol, golf tournament, bike rodeo, amusement rides from 5 p.m. until 10:30pm and live music. On Saturday (Aug. 9) enjoy a golf tournament, 10K race, baby contest, rib fest and eating contest, live entertainment and fireworks. Sunday (Aug. 10) includes a pancake breakfast, parade, Scoop the Loop Car Show, petting zoo, pony rides and a talent show.

Chicago Botanic Garden's Annual Kite Festival

Saturday, August 9, 2014 and Sunday, August 10, 2014, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Watch soaring stunt kite performances set to music by members of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois. These high-flying professionals demonstrate awesome feats of beauty and great skill. Walk or take the free tram to the festival. Ice cream, beverages, and lunch options will be available for purchase on the West Meadow.

Jazz Patio and Wine Festival

Saturday, August 9, 2014, 1:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Listen and watch as drum virtuoso and long time Smashing Pumpkin, Jimmy Chamberlin, joins forces with a platinum selling saxophone powerhouse. Also enjoy performances from local & regional jazz performers. Kids can also enjoy face painting and balloon art!

Godspell's Closing Weekend at the Marriott Theatre

Tempel Lipizzan's Performance

Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 1 p.m.

Enjoy a matinee performance of the Tempel Lipizzan horses set to classical music. The program follows the Tempel Lipizzans through varying stages of development and training. See young foals guided by their mothers as they progress through carriage driving and training, flying horse movements and a four-horse ballet. After the show, visit and tour the stables.
