Can you believe it? December is already here and most of us are looking forward to the upcoming holidays and pleasantly looking back on the previous ones.

With the final month of the year upon us, there is no better time to get in the holiday spirit with Lake County, as it has so much to offer. There's no need to be unsure where to start, we've compiled a list of the Top 10 Things To Do in December for your convenience.

That being said, pick up your favorite holiday drink and let's get festive. Here are your Top Things To Do This Weekend Dec. 1-3. ?❄️

Canadian Pacific Railroad Holiday Train at Viking Park

One of the most anticipated events of the season rolls through Gurnee this Saturday. The Canadian Pacific Railroad Holiday Train will stop at Viking Park in Gurnee. The train is nearly 1,000 feet long with 14 rail cars, each decorated with hundreds of thousands of lights and holiday designs. The event also features an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus and live performances from Canadian recording artists Terri Clark, Dallas Smith and Kelly Prescott. The Village of Gurnee offers free parking at Saratoga Square and Riverside Plaza.

Saturday, Dec. 2; 3:50 p.m. Food donations requested for admission. Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee.

MainStreet Libertyville's First Fridays / Dickens of a Holiday

MainStreet Libertyville is about as packed full with holiday events as Santa's gift bag must be. The historic downtown hosts its final First Fridays of the year with beautifully dressed up shops to admire, special promos and much more. Libertyville’s Dickens of a Holiday also begins this Saturday. Visitors can take photos with Santa in Cook Park and visit the Children’s Holiday Shoppe. ??

Friday-Saturday, Dec. 1-2; Various times, various admission, various locations throughout MainStreet Libertyville, Libertyville.

Deerfield's Annual Winter Celebration

Many festive holiday activities for all ages can be found in downtown Deerfield this weekend. The village’s Annual Winter Celebration features horse-drawn sleigh rides, roasted chestnuts ?, carolers, warm treats, live animals and much more. As an added bonus, Santa Clause arrives on Saturday for photo opportunities with children. This is your one-stop-shop for all things fun and cozy.

Friday-Saturday, Dec. 1-2; Various times. Free admission. Downtown Deerfield & Deerfield Square, 850 Waukegan Rd., Deerfield.

'A Christmas Story' at PM&L Theatre

"You'll shoot your eye out, kid!"- Santa Clause. One of the most beloved and quoted holiday movies of all time opens this weekend at PM&L Theatre. ‘A Christmas Story’ set in the 1940s, features an Indiana boy named Ralphie who wants nothing more than a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Performed by local entertainers, this classic holiday comedy will be a thrill from beginning to end.

Friday-Sunday, Dec. 1-3; Various times. Admission $13-$18. PM&L Theatre, 877 Main St., Antioch.

Miracle on Main Street & Other Holiday Tree Lightings

Witness the extravagant holiday tree lightings occurring around the Lake County this weekend.  Lake Zurich hosts ‘Miracle on Main Street’ which includes beautiful live music, sleigh rides, food vendors and more. Lincolnshire’s tree lighting ceremony features hot cocoa, desserts, musical performances and more. Mundelein’s ceremony is highlighted by numerous fun holiday activities for all attendees.

Friday-Saturday, December 1-2; Fri Mundelein’s lighting 5 p.m., Sat Lake Zurich 3-7 p.m. and Lincolnshire 5 p.m. Various locations. Check village websites for further details.
