Who are we and what exactly do we do?

Visit Lake County is a convention and visitors bureau (CVB), whose mission is, in short, to increase awareness of Lake County, Illinois as a premier tourist destination. This is achieved through the combined efforts of sales and marketing which results in stimulating the local economy through overnight stay revenue, restaurant traffic, retail shopping, local attraction visitation and overall enhanced visitor spending.

A convention and visitor bureau or destination marketing organization’s overall goal is to promote a small town, large city, or in our case a county to increase visitors. We increase local economic growth and development of a destination (our partners) through various methods of product awareness. Our partners include villages of Lake County, hotels, restaurants, retail stores, entertainment attractions and more.

Marketing initiatives include printed brochures at highway kiosks, brand awareness through social media, radio air time, printed media and much more! Sales efforts focus on tour groups including: clubs, military reunions, sports teams, corporate, government, religious, educational, unions, and weddings to name a few.

Even though our efforts help local Lake County residents become more aware of events, attractions, and businesses, our target market are the residents outside of Lake County. The impact of these combined marketing and sales efforts typically result in folks who live over 100 miles generally spending the night in Lake County, while those within 100 miles usually will spend money locally while visiting for the day before traveling back home for the evening.
